Hey guys, so I have tried to get the whole Keto diet right. But, it seems that i cant get enough fat without going way over on protein or something. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
Need Help Getting Started
Fatty cuts of meat
Butter, lard, olive oil, coconut oil, etc.
Heavy whipping cream
Avocados
Some nuts
Eat until you’re full, not to an amount some calculator tells you to.
If you’re just getting started, worry about keeping carbs under 20g net. You can hone in the protein and fat as you get more adjusted.
I second the options mentioned by @monstermash
Thank you guys for the help. And I have kept my carbs under 20g but it was getting close. Thanks once again. I look forward to this journey.

@monstermash, I sure could have used you on another thread today. I was called a bully for saying that to someone earlier.
Sauces!!! Make fatty Keto ranch or avocado mayo and just use luxurious amounts!
That’s too bad. While counting does have it’s place, I think it’s best to try to listen to your body first, and you can’t do that if you’re stressing over a number. If you’ve mastered that and things still aren’t working, I think counting temporarily can be helpful to gage where you are, then make adjustments, then ditch the counter. I counted points and calories for too long, and I don’t miss it one bit. Waste of time (for most), IMHO.
Some of us with “mental disorders” crave the structure that weighing and tracking everything provides. I could probably be just as successful by listening to my body, but man do I love tracking. Even though I’m eating the same thing for lunch and dinner every day.
P.S. I don’t suggest people track unless they’re trying to figure something out like a stall.
I totally get it for those who enjoy tracking and the structure it provides. If tracking helps you enjoy this way of eating, then more power to you. I think for a lot of people though, it’s daunting and becomes tedious and can be a pain point causing one to give up. Like many things on this way of eating, it’s a tool to be used if people feel like it’ll help them. That’s all I was getting at. I’ve done my share of tracking, and I’m so thankful to not to do it anymore. I don’t have that kind of time or patience, but out of the process, I’ve learned to prefer cooking to a recipe where the ingredients are based on weight, rather than volume. So that was a good thing.
Which is why I only suggest it to overcome something like a stall. Like @Baytowvin I normally try to suggest simple. Under 20g net carbs, adequate protein, fat until full. A great part of this process is learning to listen to your body.
Thanks guys I think I am doing good just monitoring my carb intake for now. Keeping that low. I will rethink the marcos once i need to drop the final few pounds. But how do you get rid of these headaches. Oh god it sucks.
Kevin, I feel the same way with getting enough fat! I’ve been eating keto for 3 weeks now and some days its easy to get enough fat, other days I’m having extra avocados just to fill the gap!
As for the headaches, its salt! It sounds nuts but guzzle a glass water with pink salt. The headache will be gone in 30 minutes! Long term, I’ve been adding a drop of Mio Electrolytes in the afternoon to protect from the headache.
Thanks for the tip for the headaches. I will give that a try. Hopefully it works lol
Suggested this to a guy at work who doesn’t do Keto. He was so surprised he went home and told his wife who also had a headache. Keto education is helpful even for those who don’t practice this WOE.
You “can”, just not very much of it and still be within your crab allotment. There are several bread recipes on the forum. Many find (myself included) that once you go without bread for a bit, and pasta too, you tend to loose interest in it.
Smear Cream cheese onto pepperoni or bacon, fold, enjoy. This was my go to snack in the beginning before OMAD.
