You could say that. When you don’t feed your body glucose, after depleting your stored glycogen, your body starts producing ketones but it is not yet efficient as using them as an energy source so you end up peeing some out, hence the urine ketone strips registering ketones. As you continue to keep carbs low, your mitochondria go through changes or adaptations to using fat as fuel, whether its the fat you eat or stored body fat. This transition period usually takes 6-8 weeks. During this adaptation phase, make sure you are eating plenty of fat so you’re giving your body a source of energy since you are no longer giving it glucose and your not efficient as using fat as energy.
I would suggest too that you increase your calories. 1380 seems a bit low for someone of your height. You may first see an increase in weight but as you keep calm and keto on (KCKO), you will most likely see a drop in body fat.

Hi Kitty,

I would suggest getting fat adapted first. Spend 4-6 weeks eating without calorie restriction. Make sure you get plenty of fat and keep carbs below 30g (Net carbs). Once you get past the first few weeks you will start to get mental clarity and carb cravings should start to go away. The next steps are:

  1. Get a body composition test done. Most gyms have scales that tell you body fat (%), muscle and bone mass, they also tell you how many calories you should eat to maintain your current body weight. This will be your baseline to work from every week.

  2. Experiment with counting calories and start lowering your calorie intake gradually whilst keeping fat high and carbs low.

  3. Try relax and don’t do stressful activities. Stress produces cortisol and cortisol spikes insulin production. Insulin production = FAT STORAGE!

  4. Weigh yourself on the same once a week after you wake and before you eat anything. This is the closest you will get to true body weight.

  5. Now you are fat adapted and calorie restricted you will start to see weight loss. Dont be fixated with weight and try go on waste measurement and how you feel. The health beneifts of keto will make you feel better which in turn will help you lose weight. This is a marathon not a sprint

If you eat the right foods keto is enjoyable and it will stop your craving for carbs

Good luck

Check out this video, it’s a virtual consultation with one of the foremost keto doctors in the world. He has an very high success rate and knows what works. He wants it to work first time, every time.

Dr Westman - spells it all out

Some people try to “hack” keto but then wonder why it doesn’t work for them, or have all those unexplained stalls. This is more strict, but more sure to work.

Once you get going you can then slowly add this and that food item and see how it goes.
