My son has lost 50 lbs doing IF

I was surprised when I saw my oldest son yesterday. He has lost 50 lbs by eating once a day for the last few months. He is not strictly keto when he eats, but has cut way down on his carbs for his OMAD.

He is 34 years old, 6’ 2" and was around 350 lbs when he started this. He has been overweight since childhood, even though we ate a balanced diet with very little fast food, processed food or junk. His younger brother had the same diet and was always rail thin. Genetics. Insulin resistant. Although I didn’t know what that was or how to deal with a child who was always overweight, played multiple sports, active and had a decent diet.

He is an operator at a chemical plant and gets up at 4:00 am when on days, works all day outside doing physical work on just water and black coffee. He eats at 6:30 pm when he gets home. His co-workers think he is crazy and can’t understand how he has the energy to work a 12-hr shift on coffee and water. When he is on nights he gets up at 4:30 pm, takes his OMAD to work and eats it at 6:30 pm after shift change.

I told him today I was proud of him and he was healing his body and extending his lifespan and improving his quality of life. My husband commented on how much younger he looked.

Working rotating shift can really screw up your circadian rhythm… I wonder if eating the same time every day regardless of his work shift helps? I don’t think I’ve seen any studies regarding that.

Thanks. I hope he keeps it up. Not always easy with social situations.

He said it was really hard at first and I don’t think he wants to go through the carb/sugar withdrawal again so that should motivate him.

Janie, this is a wonderful report. So happy for your family. Night shifts are really challenging and alternating them with days is what put back on my weight I lost during my menopausal years. For him to do this well, shows how really committed he is.

Good for him, doing this for himself.
