Two years ago my Dr told me that I was prediabetic even though i wasn’t overweight. He wanted me to take metformin but it let me without energy. I changed my diet and greatly reduced simple carbs. This helped reduce my HbA1c from 6 to 5.8 and ounce to 5.6. As a result I reduced my weight from 170 to 165.
In October 2018 I learned about Time Restricted Feeding And it’s Health benefits. I gradually reduced my Feeding window from 12 hours to about 6 hours. I changed my diet to include much more broccoli cauliflower beets carrots, etc. All raw. This resulted in 8 health benefits that I identified in myself: 1. Weight loss without trying of about 10 pounds in two months; 2. An increase in athletic performance while playing badminton; 3. Faster reflexes while playing badminton; 4. Typically I get some cracked finger tips in our cold dry long winters here in Fairbanks Alaska. So far this winter this has not been a problem; 5. Vastly reduced flatulence, and my family is greatly thankful; 6. Typically in our cold winters my nose runs a lot while outside. This is greatly reduced; 7. I’ve suffered from plantar fasciitis for over 5 years. I got all the standard treatments but no cure. It was reduced greatly when I reduced my carbohydrates two years ago. But in the last two months I hardly detect it. Two years ago my podiatrist was ready to do surgery; 8. Reduced drowsiness during the day. I rarely nod off at work anymore. Previously this was a huge problem after lunch. I’m generally alert all day long now; 9. I feel like my cognitive abilities have improved at age 58.
So I learned about the benefits of extended fasts and autophagy and decided that was something I should do. I did a recent 24 hour fast more than a week ago and it went well. Training my body with Time Restricted Feeding prepared me for this and my diet of lots of vegetables with complex carbohydrates.
I’m now at about 85 hours into a fast and I’ve found it not too difficult. On the third day I did experience some weekness in the morning and afternoon. This morning I feel great. The whole fast I have been functioning very well as long as I don’t over exert myself. My blood glucose was 51 this morning.
For others wishing to fast for the first time I recommend training your body first with Time Restricted Feeding. This will make your fast much easier. I’m not sure how much longer I’ll go, but not longer than five days.
