I got someone off nachos when I got a few pieces and set them on fire in my kitchen sink.
Yep! they burn…think Ethanol.
My husband and family make me sad
Be proud of your weight loss! It takes serious hard work and dedication, good for you. I know its easier said than done but tune out the haters. You do whats best for you.
LOL I watched a Survivor Man episode once where he used a Frito chip to start a fire because it burns like a candle due to the fat content. Tried it myself and it burned for quite a while.
I imagine though that my normal plates of food would be quite a spectacular show with all the fat I have…
Hang in there, @Val_Bundy — you’ve had some great responses on this thread and know that many unseen are rooting for you! Don’t worry too much about the energy (I did) it will eventually come…it was a good 6 to 8 weeks if memory serves before I started sleeping really well and having loads of energy (mind you, my neighbor who was my intro to keto said she had energy in the first few days on this WOE; but she also had “only” 40 pounds to lose vs. my 120+ so that may be a factor as well, idk). My husband is generally supportive and he’s adopted many of my new eating habits, but occasionally he’ll play the tempter and put an old favorite in my face (or worse, in my mind) because he still likes to have the occasional “treat”…not out of malice. He’s lost 40 pounds by doing lazy keto and that’s great for him. I just have to be more diligent by watching the carbs more closely. So glad you posted, you’ll get tons of support from your ketogenic family here if not from friends & family irl. KCKO!
we used to call these folks sabotogers , my wife can be the same way. trying to get her on board but she “has” to have her treats. I am trying to learn and getting there to just ignore here let her live her life , which at this point will me much shorter than mine, and i live mine. It started to cause me to much stress. Just keep your faith and as hard as it can be do the best you can…as someone said it took ud 20 years to get here it is gonna take sometime.
@Val_Bundy, we’re rooting for you! Can you check in and let us know how you’re doing? It’s maddening to think that there’s this lovely person out there who has found a terrific path for her health but is discouraged for reasons that have nothing to do with her. There can be some challenges to going keto, but a husband shouldn’t be one of them. We’ll cheer you on!!
Thanks for the concern! I’m hanging in there…I just told him I’m doing this for my own health and if he doesn’t want to be supportive he can cook his own meals…lol…he did apologize but he said he still isn’t happy about it…idk why he is so insistent why I need to eat carbs…but I just keep doing my thing…
@Val_Bundy, I’m not sure where I heard it but I was once told that, depending on your “starting size”, most people won’t notice your weight loss until you have lost 35 pounds or more. It seems crazy but I’ve found it to be true. Before I lost 35 pounds I had people tell me that they loved my new hairstyle which was not new at all! They knew something was different but couldn’t figure out what it was! Haha!
Congratulations on a 22lb weight loss in just over a month! That is great! I also found that praising myself a bit (which feels wrong) instead of relying on others to take notice was helpful in keeping my spirits lifted during plateau times. For instance, reminding myself that the belt used to fasten at hole 5 and now it is hole 13 or my collar bone now shows or I can actually see dimensions in my abdominal area… it is amazing how your confidence grows in your accomplishments when you are proud of yourself.
As for the lack of support from your husband … I agree with what many of the others have said, he is either fighting change because no one likes change that isn’t self initiated or he, in his own way, is trying to “protect” you as he fears you may not follow through…I would be willing to bet that the more you stick with it the more you will inspire him.
Keep up the hard work!
That was a hard one for me. If there was a juice I liked, it was apple juice. But even more, I liked real, fresh, apple cider… not that crap they sell at Walmart, the real thing, fresh out of the press, made from real apples and ONLY apples, no added anything. I know, HUGE fructose bomb. (But I’d still have a tiny little bit on a special occasion if offered.)
Typical fare for breakfast these days is water and coffee. I like a little lemon in my water and some HWC in my coffee.
Gave up soda quite a long time ago. (Current “soda”, as in a treat, is no sweetener seltzer water.) Sweet tea was harder to give up than soda. Still sometimes make some homemade spearmint tea with a hint of stevia to sweeten but that’s more of a treat than a staple.
That is funny that people can’t see it eh? I’ll have to try the self praise I am pretty bad at that sort of thing…I’m trying to work on that whole self love thing…thanks for the encouragement!
I assume from your handle that you are a medical doctor. Is she also in the field? I’m surprised she would question you otherwise, or maybe I just have a lot to learn about women. lol
Make and take a keto desert for thanksgiving, and don’t tell them what it is. There’s a great Hershey rip-off cake on YouTube slathered in whipped cream and chopped Sukrin milk chocolate
That should confuse them!
