My husband and family make me sad

(netposer) #21

So cool. Do you surf?

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #22

I’m with you, Steph! I’m sure God heaves a heavy sigh, but I’m far more likely to behave properly if there’s a chance it will piss someone off!

(Keto in Katy) #23

I too am waiting for some of the people around me to evolve.

Anyway, be your magnificent self and keto on. Keep shining your light, baby.

(Val Bundy) #25

that is a great quote! thank you

(Jo Burger) #26

Yeh absolutely. Getting back onto a short board has been my highlight of the keto journey so far. I was forced onto a long board for a while so I didn’t sink.

(Val Bundy) #27

very true…and I have been told I’m pre-diabetic and I do have high blood pressure and I know the slippery slope of carbs and what they do to me but he just can’t understand…it is so frustrating…not only with him but so many other people look at me like I am nuts when I tell them I am not eating sugar/carbs…lol I haven’t even gotten into the whole fat topic…they would probably really think I’ve lost it then! lol

(Val Bundy) #28

@Jo_Burger one good think I do have my mom with me on this journey so there is support there!

@Cailynq oh thanks! well I have a lot to lose and I can shed pounds kind of fast at first and stack them back on just as quick if I fall into the carb slide…which I think is part of the reason he finds this just another “fad diet” because I have tried so many before and I lose weight and then gain it back…but I am determined to make this a lifestyle change and not just some diet I do for a few months…I just don’t want to live feeling this crappy all the time…

@Shortstuff yeah he’s trying to be my carb dealer…he told me last night I was crying and moody because my body is craving carbs… yes I just need to focus on me…and that is what I am planning on doing…I need to do what is right for my body…thanks!

@PGG aww thanks…I agree he has watched me fail way too often…I can see his point there…but I have seen him fail at many things and I still encourage him or support him when he keeps trying…but I guess he doesn’t see it that way…I could see the joking getting to me as well…it can be fun but sometimes we just need some encouragement and support…

@KHAN thank you…I do keep telling myself all the reasons I am doing it…

@Darlene_Horsley oh thanks! I know it’s kinda silly that I want others to notice but at the same time I worry if they do then they will ask how and then they will be just as critical as hubby…but I just keep saying it’s for me not everyone else…I can see it and I can feel it…that is what truly matters!

@Ernest so true…so very true…thank you!

@Stephil Your story gives me hope that maybe he will come around at some point…he is very stubborn but so am I! lol…yes very thankful for this community and my mother…

@Saphire that was sweet that your daughter was worried that much though…I can understand the guilt…I wish hubby would give it a go…he isn’t really over weight like myself but I feel like it would have other great benefits for him…sigh maybe someday…lol

@stacy thanks I will!

(Stephanie Tebbs) #29

It’s probably not the most proper motivation out there but whatever works!

(Aloy ) #30

Not being seen and noticed for your positive progress is hard especially by your family. Being guilted into eating what you KNOW is not working for you is even harder. Please remember: your body your rules. If you decide to break them every once in a while it’s because you decided to do so. Be proud of yourself for being so kind and considerate of others but not on your own expense.
I find it insane that nowadays food is such a social condition to fit in or be part of a get together.

I understand your sadness. My boss brings in candy, cake and chips even though she knows I’m trying to avoid it. My husband still brings crackers, chips, cookies and candy home. I get the feeling they are thinking, “If I can’t be thin then all my friends can be fat!” Hang in there. People are noticing the new you whether they say anything or not. I know my husband gets tired of me and my “diet” business but keto and intermittent fasting is the only thing that’s actually helped my weight and inflammation. Keep calm and let on, my friend.

(Val Bundy) #32

@Aloy I agree…I went to visit my nana last weekend and I told her not to cook anything I just wanted to come up and visit and she said don’t be silly of course we will have something to eat…then later she messaged me and said she felt bad because we didn’t get to talk much…which I why I didn’t want her to cook in the first place! I helped her in the kitchen and we did talk a bit in there but still…

@Ruth_A_Rodgers thanks!

(VLC.MD) #33

Why ? Is she trying to fatten up the herd ? Is this sugar based junk “A Treat” for the office ?
It’s cheap and disgusting carbage.
Honestly, your first reaction should be you feel sorry for the people willing to eat that non-food.

Bring your own food to work. ONLY eat your own food.
If you forget food … guess what ? you are fasting.

sounds like what my 4 year old eats.
ewww.

#34

Why do you let him? While not a fan of keto for healthy growing kids, this is the time to instill good habits. I rarely buy any of that for my kids and have been gradually phasing out cereal

(VLC.MD) #35

I’m making strides. I was able to successfully rid juice from the house. The lady of the house is a steadfast carbovore. I’m slowly increasing the fat intake options for the kids and reducing the wheat based carbs.

(Damon Chance) #36

Same here… my wife eats keto with me but she still has a cheat day about once a week… sometimes more. However, she still insists on apple juice and crap for the kids… They definitely want it, and are habituated to it so she probably just doesn’t want to deal with the whining. You can’t reason with a toddler… they don’t care about your ideas, they just want chocolate milk and juice… and they want it now.

I definitely have switched dinners to a fatty meat and veggie only ordeal… and I use real butter and AS for other things as often as I can. Hopefully we can start to wean them off the crap soon.

(VLC.MD) #37

Exactly the poison I got rid of.

The kids have water or milk now.

Here is a good way to get someone off soda.

We had a new stainless commercial refrigerator at work which developed a couple of rust spots. We called for warranty service and we were told that they did not need to send anyone, put some coke on a rag and it will take it right out. It did. That was about 5 years ago and the point I decided to give up even diet coke

#39

@d_to_the_c
If it’s any consolation, I’ve found that over years of eating well (not keto for most of it, but LC ancestral, home cooking, whole foods) my children have moved more and more toward a healthy approach to food both in their habits and in their tastes and desires.

(Damon Chance) #40

My 11 year old no longer makes me trim the fat off the steaks… so she’s shifting slowly. Although I really liked eating the fat off her steaks…

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #41

I learned my lesson when I was told to clean off my battery cable connectors with Coke. Once I really tried it and saw the results, I worked my way off soda very quickly.
