My first 7 day fast

(Dustin Cade) #1

So I’m almost 72 hours into my first 7 day fast… I feel fine, though if I think of food my brain goes off the rails trying to plan a cheat day… Cheat days have not been a part of my last 18 months on Keto… Does this happen to anyone else?

I’m not going to give in, but it’s just weird…

day 4

Best of luck. You should be in the Zen Zone by now. I have done a six day that felt great and easy. The standard chant - Hydrate hydrate hydrate.

What’s been your previous fasting experience? I don’t know about cheat days, but if I think of food on a fast (and I am 5 days into mine right now), I find myself endlessly planning all the goodies I will break my fast with.

yeah i’ve not had a cheat day since starting Keto back in September of 2016, and my cravings for non keto foods have been minimal over the last few months, so this is a bit off… I’ve fasted 24, 48, 72, and my longest before now was 88 hours… I’m right about 88 hours right now, 9 pm tonight I’ll be 96 hours…

Sometimes I think our minds panic when we get close to a new level of success. Whatever is within reach with longer fasts might just be triggering a “oh, this is new! don’t know if I can handle it” sort of reaction on some (not conscious) level. If that’s it, sometimes just trying to figure out what’s behind it (what actually am I worried about?) is helpful, because usually there’s something legitimate, some self-protective mechanism.

Or - I don’t know, it could be purely physiological! Something in some of those fat cells your body burned through @ the 72 hour mark triggered different cravings, and you just need to ride it out (and enjoy your - totally keto - feasting on the other side of the fast).

Could be burning the fat created by those foods and these cravings are the haunting lingering specters of those long gone foods… So when @carl and @richard get to the fat created by that Krispy Kreme from ten years ago they’ll begin to crave them hardcore…

Omg donut ghosts!! :doughnut: :ghost: I bet I have some ice cream ghosts in my belly fat

Go, Dustin!!!

I’ve found that cheats lead to cravings, which leads to more cheats, which leads to more cravings.

While I’m fasting and thinking of food, it’s generally butter, fatty steak and cheesy stuff… so my meal when I break the fast is usually well planned and prepared

How are you going with your fast? I’m on day 7 now… my longest so far and I feel great

(Dustin Cade) #14

I felt great, I just had dinner, I broke my fast with a boiled egg, and waited about an hour to eat my meal… I didn’t cheat, didn’t want to chea, but that third day of the fast was trying to shove me in that direction… It was strange…

Well done

I usually struggle on day 2 and/or 3, but this time late on day 5 was the hardest. I ended up having a couple of tablespoons of kerrygold butter with dark chocolate sea salt peanut butter (about one of each to start with then the rest in small amounts over about 20 munutes until the hunger went away). Some people will say that it technically broke the fast, but it was enough to let me continue, and I figure the benefits of continuing outweigh any temporary setback.
