Mustard BBQ Sauce

Here is a mustard sauce that I started using on my smoked pulled pork years ago. I then started using it on smoked and roasted chicken. I have now modified the recipe to be low carb so that I can still enjoy it being on Keto.

This is perfect with pork, chicken and Pastrami. It is tangy, sweet, and has a nice spicy kick at the end.

Mustard BBQ Sauce

• 1 cup prepared yellow mustard
• 1/2 cup Apple Cider vinegar
• 6 packets of Truvia Sweetner
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice
• 1 teaspoon cayenne

Preparation

Add all ingredients into a small sauce pan.
Heat on medium heat for 5 minutes
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes.
Transfer to container for storage.

-On a side note. I usually add it to a jar and refrigerate it. You can use it right away, but letting it stand a day helps meld the flavor.

Definitely going to try this, sounds great.

I think the carb count may be a bit low (I make it 1.7 gr of sugar from the Worcestershire sauce alone, and another 2 or 3 gr from the mustard). Still, well within bounds.

My Frenches Mustard says 0 carbs, but yeah the Worcestershire has some carbs. You could probably even omit it without it changing the taste too much.

Check the serving size; I’m guessing it’s below the reporting threshold. But, when you use a whole cup, it adds up.

Unfortunately when it comes to Mustard, it’s up in the air.

I wanted to give the most honest nutritional facts and actually did quite a bit of research on mustard. A lot of mustard out there do add sugar. They add fillers. French’s, which is the one I use, has none on the ingredients list.

The only thing that could have added carbs is the vinegar, but even the distilled vinegar I researched had no carbs or next to no carbs.

All that being said, My nutritional facts are as honest as I can get them. If you feel safer to your diet to add a few, I won’t argue with you, I’m the same way.
