Pardon if the discussion on your issues is done, but I have a couple of things to add…

  1. I thought alternate day fasting was more like a 36 hour fast with a day of eating in between. This is a lot different than doing a 24 hour fast, and eating dinner in a window of 6-7. What you are describing more OMAD every other day. For true alternate day fasting you need to go past the 24 hour point.

  2. Non-dairy BPC:
    Big chunk of cacao butter
1T of coconut or MCT oil
    1 T hemp hearts

Blend with a high powered blender and add in at the last 10 second, if you like:
1 scoop collagen peptides

I’m not sure the macros jive perfectly with BPC, but it’s quite an amazing drink. You can also add in vanilla power and sprinkle cinnamon on the top. It’s called a Rocket Fuel Latte—Leanne Vogel’s recipe.

Hi Erin, thanks for the response.
According to The Obesity Code, a 24 hour fast where dinner is still eaten on the fasting day is still considered an alternate day fast. Fung also includes a 36 hour fast, as you mentioned, and I am working my way up to that!

Thanks for the BPC recipe- that sounds amazing! Looking forward to trying it

I started tonight. Goal is 5 days.

#264

I’m also aiming for 5 days this week. Longest I’ve done so far is 63 hours. Really want to break through a mini-plateau and I’m so close to getting into double digits on the scale (kgs). Hopefully this can get me closer. Battling some mental demons more this week (low self-esteem, anxiety) and struggling to see my progress even though I’ve had multiple compliments. Weight loss is not the answer, I know, just need to find my mojo!!

#265

Ate last night (naughty naughty, had my first keto cheat while we were away, a few chocolates we had leftover from Christmas  ), hoping for a 48 hours to get rid of what I ate…!
My carb cravings are a lot better than they were, but the overeating tendency is still there… had to restrain myself as I could’ve easily eaten loads, even though they weren’t as nice as I remember!!

And the congregation echoed a hearty AMEN. I’m finding weight loss to be one of the tougher events in this rodeo*.

    • in order to avoid the ensuing discussion about how it’s not all about weight loss and all other benefits of the WOE, I’ll tag the asterisk at the end :-). I chose keto over other plans because of the other benefits.

Oh we are not alone! It’s great to have this forum where we can gather when we’re frustrated & see others trying to be patient while trying to solve their unique metabolism puzzles as well.

(I came for the weight loss and stayed for my sanity... ) #268

Just started today, so 7 hrs so far. I am really fatigued, but i think that is just because i ate so much so frequently the last 4 days.
I found out I can not stay home alone… I just can’t no matter how much I analyze my feelings and try to rationalize things.
I AM NOT HUNGRY AT ALL BUT CAN NOT STOP EATING

next time my flatmate is out for several days I have to plan out every free minute and spend them with friends and/or outdoor activities…

Going for my zumba tonight to deplete my glycogen stores.

I figured out how I can prepare an equivalent to keto aid with the ingredients I have at home, lets see how that works out.
trying to get back to 5 day fasts every other week.
it gave me such awesome results last year and I felt so great. I want to go back to that.

Another True Statement! It’s great to be able to talk through things with like minded people who are futher along in the journey. My co-workers - a fairly well educated and seemingly open minded group - apparently think I’ve taken leave of my senses. Mind you, I don’t discuss it much at work unless someone brings it up … I don’t go looking for conflict … but once word got around it seems like more than a few like to try to “reel me back in” nutritionally.

I know that feeling. it’s just too funny when a few newspaper articles showed up about fasting and all of the skeptics start with their 24 hrs fast.
And one even bought up the obesity code and wanted to explain what she just read to me.
Just grinning, nodding in agreement and biting my tongue not to say “I told you so”
But then again, all my life I did things before they were cool :sunglasses: not trying to be a hipster though…

38 hours down and I pulled short ribs out of the freezer last night. I’ll start a 24 hour Sous Vide cook tonight so I can have them Tuesday night to break my fast at 72 hours!

(Doug) #272

If “mixing it up” and “keeping your body guessing” is a good thing, then I should be holding a royal flush. 38 hours here too - around the 18 hour mark I had insisent thoughts of food, heck - worse than my first fast ever. I was mentally driving to these different stores and getting this and that…

It all smoothed out later in the day; by 24 hours felt better than ever, even some of that often-elusive ‘euphoria’ coming on the scene, and it’s continued into this second day.

Going for a five day fast this week. Getting into a groove with some “meal substitution” habits. Instead of breakfast, morning meditation. Instead of lunch, reading or podcast and sunbathing. Instead of dinner, Epsom salt bath w/herbal tea. Finding I look forward to these new routines to give a rhythm to my fasting days, especially when EF. Happy fasting, everyone! :sunny::coffee::sunny:

184 after your rise and 140 the rest of the time is high isn’t it? I’m T2 on insulin and while I have been able to lower my doses I would be shooting some if my numbers were as you stated yours are. OTOH, I know that once I can get off insulin I will most likely lose weight faster! I want to understand how taking insulin and living keto work. Any insight would be welcomed!

(Doug) #275

Hi Perpetua. What you said about lowering your insulin dosages is a big part of it. Keto should make your insulin requirements considerably less, and hopefully there is a downward-racheting effect of lower average insulin levels and increasing insulin sensitivity. Losing weight faster - yes, lower insulin levels should help there too, and of course less weight itself is a big help for most of us Type 2 Diabetics.

No real “insight” here - you seem to already be aware of the above. Patience and the willingness to stay the course is what I have to work on.

(Steve) #276

I’ll be closing off a 6 day this afternoon…will have some broth later in the afternoon to prep me for my refeed around 6pm. SO looking forward to food!!! We really shouldn’t grocery shop when we’re fasting…just a REALLY bad idea!!!

Size 12 to 6!?!? I am struggling to go from size 50 to size 30, and have only reached 36 :joy:.

(Robert C) #278

Well, it is Monday - here is my update:
Deviation - I got a dinner invite for Sunday night (yesterday) that I did not want to miss so, I had to turn my 14-day fast into a 13-day fast (isn’t if funny how, even after a 13-day strict fast, you kick yourself around for not hitting your original goal?).
Yesterday morning the scale was at 199 pounds (90.3 kilograms) - down from 215 (97.5 kilograms) 13 days earlier (5’ 8’’ or 1.7 meter tall male).
Being an American I traditionally think in pounds so, when I saw 199 - well, let’s just say happy happy happy to break 200!
I will weigh again and report on Friday - after several days of solid keto to get an idea of fat loss vs. “water” loss.

PS
Breaking the 13-day fast:

  • 100 grams of kimchi - wait 45 minutes
  • 2 handfuls of arugula sauteed in ghee - wait 45 minutes
  • 1 medium sausage - about 90 minutes later, keto (as mush as possible) dinner in a restaurant

Zero intestinal distress (which I have encountered coming off fasts as short a 5 days by going too quickly).

LOL well women’s clothing sizes are not the same as men’s and they make NO SENSE. I explained to my husband that a size 6 in one brand was not the same as a size 6 in another and it blew his mind. I was like I know, right?? It’s crazy. Makes it almost impossible to shop for clothes. I have clothes in three sizes in my closet right now and they all fit.
