Macadamia nuts MmmmMmMmh

So, I haven’t had macadamia nuts ever that I recall except in a fancy candybar as a kid. I was listening to Richard on the podcast talk about his bag he carries for energy as he bike rides around. I generally would have almonds if anything for nuts. But it sounded great as the fat content was superior to almonds.

For me anyway, the cost was crazy high over almonds but I tried them anyway. I loved them and could feel myself getting full, but I couldn’t stop eating the things. I ended up eating the whole 10 oz bag. So while I don’t count calories, I did notice it was 2000 calories I just shoved in my pie hole. LoL. Apparently, macadamia nuts are something I should avoid, cause I have no off switch when it comes to eating them. They are delicious

Macadamia are wonderful toasted.

I keep bags of pecans and walnuts, I also make crepes with almond flour so I can cover them with butter.

Take out a serving and put the bag away. Macas are pretty much perfect but are easy to overdo.

Also toxic to dogs to watch out for that.

I also have a hard time justifying the cost, but when I do buy them (cause they are freaking delicuous), I always mix a small amount in with my almonds. That way I avoid overdoing it and they also last longer. Otherwise I’d be tossing back cans of these puppies.

I have 1 ounce of either Macadamia or pecans at least 5 days a week … and I also have to measure out the serving and put the bag/can away or I eat too many.

I love them too and often wonder how they would be coated in dark chocolate…

oh - I know the answer to this one! They’re really really good.

I’m another person who can just keep eating macadamia nuts. I remember a few months ago someone on here asked how to store them. That cracked me up

Only one way to find out. Time to get the candy moulds out.

#10

I’ve had to stop buying them. I bought $50 worth from a bulk food store thinking they would last me at least a month. The cashier even asked me what I was “planning on doing with all of these”. They were gone in a week… and the scale showed it!

Yep, pretty good. I melted about half a 100% chocolate bar along with about a tablespoon of coconut butter and added a little swerve. Poured it over macadamias in a candy mold.

Beautiful!

Dayum, those look luscious! Neat idea too, to form them in wee cups. That would not have occurred to me. I was thinkin along the lines of melting some 86% and tossing the nuts in that, and letting cool in smallish clumps. I say 86% because I can taste the sweetness and it’s enough for me. Don’t have to add anything extra. Jesus, another experiment on the board!

You Sir are the devil! Now I’m drooling over here wondering why I don’t have any candy molds! :joy:

(TJ Borden) #15

I bought them since starting keto. I’m amazed at how much more I’ve been doing in the kitchen since keto. Next I’m thinking I might use the same strategy with some peanut butter to make miniature peanut butter cups…which was my one true sweet vice pre-keto.

(Missy) #16

I seriously can’t stop looking at your chocolate covered mac nuts! I think I’m going to have to head over to amazon and put a few items in my cart.

(Sophie) #17

If you have a Trader Joes near you, go there! They have 10oz., Roasted/Salted for $9 really good!

(Vladaar Malane) #18

That is cheap 10oz roasted salted was 15 dollars at Wegmans.

:flushed:
Can’t say I’m really surprised though. The standard of livin is much higher up north… All the more reason to be down south, besides the weather!

I portion out 1/2 or 1 oz 14-28g) servings and I’m experimenting with sealing tiny packs with my foodsaver. The rest stay in the back of the freezer. ALTHOUGH … I’ve had plans for a Kona Coffee glaze I want to try on them (that was my favorite flavor when we went to Hawaii in ‘15).
