Low Blood Glucose during fast

Hello All!
Fairly new to this Forum, but not to keto diets. Been a long time low carb eater, and for the last 6 months, I’ve been trying intermittent fasting and a few multi-day fasts. Currently, I’m on day 4 of an attempted 7 day fast. Took my first ever Blood Glucose test, got a 30 mg/dL. Ketones came in at 7.2 mmol/L. GKI of 0.2

Should I be concerned about the blood glucose levels? Or GKI? These are far lower then I’ve seen discussed. A quick search on BG in that range gives me results about Hypoglycemia, not something I want to bring on.

I feel great. Super focused, very calm, super productive. Have a strict rule about ending a fast if I don’t feel well or if bad test results come in. Does this fall in a bad results area?

I have no baseline to see where my BG levels were at. BK I’ve tested often over the last few months, and they range between .8 and 1.7 when intermittent, and as high as 3.8 during my last 3 day fast. When I started my fast Monday night, they were at 1.7 before bed and woke up to them at 1.4. They have been slowly rising all week, to 5.2 yesterday evening.

I would continue to test and to track what is going on with your body. If you feel great and are focused, calm and productive then it sounds like you have no symptoms of low blood glucose other than the test you took. Could you have had a faulty reading?

There are lots of videos on youtube as well.

Thanks for the reply. Just retested a few minutes ago, BG at 37 mg/dl, so not a faulty reading.

Forgot to add, blood pressure was normal, 93/59.

I think often the standard numbers are based off of people on an SAD diet so there can be some concerning numbers that may have no worries because a body may be using fuel sources so differently than those eating carbs. It sounds like you feel great so…

Agreed. If you feel fine don’t worry. When you have high ketones your glucose normally is low. Vice versa

I also agree. If you feel perfectly fine, then I wouldn’t worry. I would just take the precaution that if you happen to go anywhere, just bring along something to break your fast should you start to not feel well, that way your not scrambling to find something to eat.
