Lots of weight loss and then... Nothing

(Roni) #22

I’ve been doing keto for 6 months and lost 20 in the first 2 months. I then stalled for 4 months, yes it was frustrating and I kept wondering what I was doing wrong. I tested Ketones, logged food in cronometer, played around with my macros but nothing was changing as far as weight.

That being said, I could tell there were lots of other changes happening though like increased energy, mood balance and mental clarity to name a few. For the first time in my adult life I have able to maintain my weight without large fluctuations.

For me I just keep telling myself to keep calm and keto on. I keep reminding myself that I had a lifetime of eating horribly and I’m sure my body needs time to correct and heal itself.

In my experience my body has a few body weight set points it likes to hover around before it finally gives in and let’s go. After a 4 month stall I dropped 10 lbs in a week and am maintaining that easily.

I know my body is in a healing process and it’s just going to take time before it finds its happy weight. I feel so much better in all sorts of other ways that weight is a secondary concern for me at this point. I did decide to work with a nutritional practitioner and am getting some testing done just to be sure nothing is wrong and to optimize my health as much as I can.

Keep going at it Joan do not give up!!! Are you doing intermittent fasting? Keto works best with IF and it is very easy and empowering to do. I read a lot, listen to pod cast, you can register to Dr. Eric Berg Utube channel, there is a good book on IF by Dr. Jason Fung. I came to this forum to also get encouragement and it is working. Don’t hesitate to reach out.
Also keep in mind the weight you lost is relative to how much you have extra to loose, how bad your eating habits were and how “damaged” your body is by bad habits and too many diets trials… I had to loose 40lbs to reach my happy weight… I’d love to loose 60lbs to get to 130lbs but I know this is not realistic as I have an athletic figure… Be realistic, read a lot, be true to yourself and keto on!

How long did it take you before feeling the effect: mental clarity, energy, etc? I am am starting my 8th week and do not feel any different except I do not have cravings anymore.

Thank you. I read way too much! Lol. I just started IF today’s. I rely too much on my morning BPC so I’ve beem reluctant to fast. But i started today in an effort to see if it had any effect.
I’d love to lose 30, I’d be happy with 20. I do agree with what you mentioned about my body perhaps needing to repair after years of eating at a far too low calorie deficit. My age and hormones is a battle too.
Sticking with it thought!

I want to say that it took about 3-4 weeks. I def notice the energy boost after i lost my cravings.

Ok so had too many concerns about not being in ketosis so went to get a ketones blood tester… I am lucky being in Quebec the government gives the machine when you buy the strips, so got is for $18 Canadian… I do IF so no breakfast, lunch and dinner. Had what I considered a heavy in fats dinner at the restaurant last night: pistachio crusted salmon with asparagus and bacon brussel spouts, I added olive oil. I stayed away from the bread and wine which was hard but felt like this was a big win. Felt I ate a bit too much thought, felt full. I tested my ketones for the first time this morning and was only at 0.6… I know you ketones level are lower in the morning so will test again after dinner tonight. I need to be between 1.5-3.0 right? When is the best time to test, if any?

I test mine with a blood meter, immediately before my first meal, which is normally between 12:00 and 14:00.

I fluctuate quite a bit but, am anywhere between 1.6 and 5.5. Normally 2.5 - 4.0

Do you guys fluctuate this much?

Wow you are in the zone… It has been 8 weeks doing Keto, lost 14lbs first 4 weeks and now 4 weeks with no weight lost. Bought the blood tester and I am only at 0.4, 0.5 and the max I reached after dinner is 0.9:(!!! Anyone knows why? Is it because I am doing something wrong or just that my body might need more time to adjust…? Will I get to the desired 1.5-3 level only when my body will be in ketosis???

I started on a Monday at 0.1, and was at 1.6 by Wednesday. Maybe I’m just one of those whose body enters ketosis easily.

My weight loss has also been good so far. Even if most of it might be water.

Just wanted to share the good news! Do not know what i did differently by the weight started to come down again:)!! 3lbs down this week. So happy. So everyone out there struggling and having little down time don’t give up. One advice still have to be careful on portion, it is not because we are on keto that portion should no longer matter. I think I might have reduced a little what I am eating without restricting myself. Seems to be working… Another week or 2 and I’ll reach half of my goal!

What I think he meant is that muscle is denser than fat, which is why clothes get baggier even if the scale is not moving.
