Looking for help understanding Labs

(John W Hawkins) #1

Hello Everyone. I am not new to Keto, been doing it for a little over 6 months. I have seen great results and thought everything was fine. My doctor wanted to run some labs and the cholesterol results have confused.

I am strict keto, take around 15g of carbs or less a day. My diet consists of only health fats focusing on Omega 3 sources. I work out 5-6 times a week under a trainer. I don’t smoke or drink.

My Total Cholesterol is 288
HDL is 73
LDL 199
Triglycerides 62

I have been reading all I could, and have read what could be the reason from being a Lean Mass Hyper Responder and to the healthy fats changing the type and density of LDL.

From what I gather I have nothing to worry about but I wanted to come here and try to gain further insight.

Can anyone help ? Thank You !

Have you run your data through this https://cholesterolcode.com/report/ ?

I’m not sure what your problem is. Your triglyceride to HDL ratio is 0.85, when anything under 2.0 is excellent. With that ratio, your LDL is guaranteed to be Pattern A, and thus not a problem.

And that’s if you believe that cholesterol has something to do with cardiovascular disease in the first place. Since the evidence to support that notion ranges from minimal to non-existent, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Labs are generally friendly, and much smarter than, say, Golden Retrievers.

That’s not saying much!

It’s a low bar

Black labs maybe, but not golden, and certainly not chocolate.

Paul nailed it. Do what you can to increase cholesterol. The evidence from the WHO is that the lower your cholesterol the higher your all cause mortality rate… “wait, that’s the wrong way round isn’t it?” Nope, right way round. Do what you can to increase cholesterol and sack any Dr that asks you to go on statins.

For a man, that’s an incredibly high HDL. Those are also very low trigs.

You should also know that these are highly variable, and depend on what you’ve eaten and how much you have fasted.

Oh, and as for understanding Labradors, it’s very easy: The only sentence in their language is, “I’m hungry. You forgot to feed me!”
