Looking for a water fasting buddy for the next 1-2 weeks!

(Robin Lea Fritche) #1

Hello, all!

My Thanksgiving holiday misbehaving has gone on too long, and I’m thinking I’ll start a long water fast tomorrow and go at least a week, but maybe up to two. Does anyone want to join me for any part of this?

The plan is to do this, stop fasting to do a little keto/IF, and maybe be bad again over Christmas, and then right after Christmas, strict keto/IF until I feel like doing another long fast.

It’s the end of the semester for me, so maybe not the best time due to stress, but on the other hand, I don’t have a ton left to accomplish (for once) and not prepping food and eating will save time that I can spend working on projects or resting.

Anyway, let me know if we can cheer each other on.

I am shooting for a 5 day fast, too. Done eating at 7pm tonite. Here we go. I am doing coffee/tea, too.

hey @RobinLeaF and @RiHill - count me in. I’ve already started a fast that I plan to take up to 18/12/17 (14 days) with the only modification that I’m having a green juice in the morning (spinach, lemon, zucchini, celery) - at least for the next few days but water fasting for the rest of the day. My energy has been off the last couple of weeks and an extended fast might be just what I need to get back and bouncing.

I am in! I was planning on omad but I think a full fast might help me get closer to my goal. Starting from 6 pm Sunday until 6 pm Wednesday. I will make my gallon of ketoaide in the morning. I already have salt by my desk, in my car and my purse.

(Naomi Brewster) #6

I’ve started the fast - I’ve decided to go full water fast for now and see how I go

(Becky) #7

23 hours in! Just water, salt and ketoaide. I was feeling hungry on the way home, but jumping on the scale and seeing the "late in the day " weight is motivating me to keep drinking my water and putting a pinch of salt on my tongue. Imagining my belly fat being eaten up!

33 hours into my water, salt and ketoaide fast and another milestone! I am below 215! 214.8 and receiving random compliments at work and my pants are feeling like Urkels, pulled all the way up my torso!

Last night as I started feeling growling hunger, I would drink more water with a pinch of salt and rub my belly, cheering “Bye, bye, belly!”

Yay fasting!

I haven’t yet mastered the art of fasting in the face of temptation. I have several all day conferences coming up that are filled with carbs. Previously I’ve managed these by eating a full keto breakfast prior, bringing lots of keto snacks for mid morning boredom and making keto choices at the obligatory lunch with colleagues. Normally, I would just consider this a feasting day, but 6 days is a lot of feasting days.

I am going to buy the fancy salt assortment from Trader Joe’s to experiment with throughout “breakfast” and mid-morning, allow myself tea and bring varieties I enjoy, bring my lunch made up of “snacky” things, like cold cut roll ups, or sardines w mayo, sans cheese, macadamia nuts, boiled eggs w mayo, olives, etc. and 85% dark chocolate for mid afternoon.

This would allow my fast to go 66 hours and if too tempted, I have snacks from lunch to pick on.

Reminding myself that my body CANNOT burn fat while insulin is spiked, so avoid snacking, unless that round, soft, pink frosted, sprinkled thing starts whispering my name sinisterly.

214.8!!!

I think I’ll jump in & see where it takes me.

(Robin Lea Fritche) #10

That’s awesome!!!

And good luck at the conferences… bringing your own food should help.

(Robin Lea Fritche) #11

All I’ve had since Sunday night is water and salt. And people keep offering me food, ahhh!!

(Robin Lea Fritche) #13

How’s it going so far??

(Naomi Brewster) #14

So I’m just finishing my second full day (stopped eating about 3pm on Monday) and feeling pretty good. Had a headache last night and this morning but cleared up after drinking some sole water. So it’s summer here and the invitations are coming in thick and fast - I have social events lined up for both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is just a meet up and I can probably get away with just having a water but Sunday is a barbecue and a working bee - might be hard to slip in under the radar. I see sometimes that people say they break their fast with a single meal - has anyone tried that and how did it go?

How is everyone else going?

Welcome, to you and to @Redefine, @gnomesb, and @RiHill!

Sorry I haven’t checked back. I’ve thought of you guys, but it’s the second last week of my first semester as a PhD student and teaching assistant (plus I have another job), and it’s been crazy. I haven’t eaten, though!!! Tonight one of my colleagues tried to offer me Chinese food several times and it smelled divine, but it wasn’t too hard to resist. Next Tuesday night, when we all do our presentations in my Laboratory Phonology seminar, my prof is planning to get pizza, and she said we should let her know about any restrictions or if we can even eat pizza. Ugh. So I’m gonna have to email her and tell her to PLEASE not worry about me. I’ll either eat or not, but if I eat, I’ll bring my own (I might still be fasting…who knows?). People seem to get pretty uncomfortable when they’re at a function with food and somebody chooses not to eat…or if they bring something must for themselves and don’t share.

Anyway, I’ve forgotten to weigh myself, so I’ll have no idea how things truly went in that regard.

I’ve noticed that I’m really cold a lot in temperatures that don’t usually have that effect on me. I don’t recall if this happened before. I think it did, the last time I fasted for more than a day (the other times were before it started to get cold). I’m wearing my winter coat in the house. I want to crawl into bed with my warm sheepskins, but then I’ll fall asleep and I am working on a presentation…

Speaking of…better get back to that!!!

:joy:

I’ve broken a couple long fasts with a handful of almonds and then didn’t eat again until the next day (this was in the evening both times, I think). I did eat a full on Thai meal recently after fasting… I’m not sure how many days I’d gone. It was a month ago. Ish. I had a date planned and I’d agreed to tea, but then he was expecting me to have dinner in addition to the tea and I figured, what the hell. Lol. Amazingly, I was fine.

(Becky) #17

I generally break my fast when invited out with others, so it’s always a full meal for me. Other than the fact that my eyes are bigger than my stomach…yay, fasting! I’ve been fine. Ok, but, my longest continuous fast has been 48 hours.

(Robin Lea Fritche) #18

That’s good!! And yeah, my stomach gets full a lot faster after I haven’t been eating for a while!

I had a looong day (but OMG I’m DONE with the requirements for one of my classes!!), And I’m now past three days. I’m hungry, but it’s not unbearable. Need sleep, though!!

(Becky) #19

Congratulations on completing three days and your class requirements!

(Robin Lea Fritche) #20

Thanks! And now I’ve done four. Heh.

Lots of work to get done before Tuesday night, when I do my last presentation. Oy.

(Robin Lea Fritche) #21

So very tempted to eat today. Fasting for 5 days is not nothing, but I want to make it further than I got the last time, so that would mean I should keep on going.

End of semester stress, though…

For some reason this one hasn’t been quite as easy as the others. I’ve been hungry every day. It’s annoying. I ignore it, but it’s there.

I have so much work to finish, but I feel like crawling into bed after having some supper. Hahaha. So tired!!!

How are you all doing?

(Becky) #22

Hope you are doing well.

I went out to eat Tuesday evening which was planned. Then, I allowed myself to stress eat Wednesday night, 3 meals on Thursday (work evaluation day) and three meals again today. The stress eating takes on a life of its own!

The evaluation went very well, so why am I still eating? Tonight I almost bought a box of sugar free chocolates…?!? I once heard that the definition of drug abuse is using a substance for other than its intended purpose. Doing so clearly activated my food addict behavior.

As I was in the drive thru (Keto, but still…) I felt a longing for the freedom of fasting and thought, “Oh well, I’ll restart during the next zornfast.”

That is my compulsive behavior talking. Fasting feels good. Fasting gives me energy. I’m not dying of thirst while fasting. (When I eat compulsively, drinking water gets pushed aside.).

Thanks for the space to write this out. I felt my body release a ton of stress in one large breath. So, I take another and go fill up all of my water containers, cause I like water and water likes me…lol.
