Hi fellow Ketoer’s!! I hope I’m posting in the proper area…new to this forum stuff. This question is for the ladies…

Ive been Keto now for 2 years…have maintained beautifully. However, in November 2017 I quit taking my Ortho Tri_Cyclen birth control pill to rid my body of the hormones. I lost 2 quick pounds during the two weeks after stopping :sunglasses: I did have a two day cheat fest over New Years Eve & Day…put on 6 pounds!! I went right back to it January 2nd and haven’t done anything different than usual. Oddly…I can’t drop the 6 pounds. I can’t imagine that I gained 6 pounds of fat from those 2 cheat days?? I finally have a period this week since abandoning the BC pill…my question is this… do you think the stopping the pill has wreaked havoc on my weight loss/gain? 6 pound gain is terrifying me!

Melissa, birth control pills can mess up your hormones, long after you quit them. Give it time, plenty of time. Continue to be faithful with this way of eating. Consider a fast for as long as you are comfortable doing it. Fasting can do wonders, but don’t expect your hormones to be normal immediately.

Thanks for this. I know it won’t be overnight. It’s just scary seeing this 6 pounds after achieving such great results and maintaining them. It makes you second guess everything your doing.

The lovely gift of being a woman are our hormones. They can also influence water retention, and coming off birth control will cause some unpredictable shifts in your levels, meaning your water retention will be unpredictable and/or quite stubborn for a bit. I’m sure some of that is mostly water! Your body needs time to adjust and figure out what it’s doing now as I imagine you were on this BC for a while, so be patient with it.

Do a few IF’s and then an extended fast. You might get away with just the IFs. Doing them will at the very least help you get insulin in check. Since insulin plays havoc on so many other systems in the body, that might just help a lot. I’d also look into mega doses of Vitamin D3. Around 5,000 to 20,000 IU. It’s another hormone that most people don’t even think about. Get insulin and D3 in their proper places. It should help balance the rest of the system. Take with a grain of salt. I no nothing about women’s hormonal issues. At least not enough to give trusted, or knowledgeable advice.:cowboy_hat_face:

Yes…I was on BC since 2006! I fasted all day today and had a dinner meal. I’ve done IF for 16 hours but never really longer than that. Maybe it’s time I try to extended fast? I’ve heard that when you’re healing hormones you’d shouldnt fast? Any truth to this?

I can’t for sure say what you should do regarding your fasts. I don’t know if it’s a good idea to do or not. All I’m saying is that you should be patient with your body for a bit with those 6 pounds. You’ve done so amazing til now!

I think as long as you hydrate and address electrolytes, anyone can fast - for however long they feel well. Just listen to your body and try to eat when you need to and not push past a good window. If you’ve done 16 hrs already why not add an hour on each end and push to 18, then a few days later to 20, and then you’ll be at OMAD. After doing that for a week you might have s night where dinner just doesn’t sound great so you skip it and then you’re at a 36-hr Extended fast if you wait til breakfast the next day. For me I rarely and hungry in the morning so even when I intend to break a fast at 36 hrs it often continues to 40-48 hrs (dinner day 2). Good luck!

OK, I can’t stand it. Why did you first show up as “GiveMeGuacamole” (which I think is a GREAT handle!) and now you are @9319d3d9ca656bb5e626 ??? Is that some kind of geek code for “Give Me Guacamole?”:star_struck::heart_eyes:

I was adding my profile picture and for some reason that number popped up??? I’m stumped myself

You seem to have toggled anonymous mode; tap your profile pic and you will see a circle with a slash through it. Tap that circle to exit anonymous mode.

(Melissa) #15

I just tried tapping my profile picture to fix my name…I didn’t see a slash through it??

(Melissa) #16

AAAAHHH…behold…MY NAME IS BACK!! HOLY GUACAMOLE!! 8-)))

(Consensus is Politics) #17

I did that once. I noticed my name looked more like a hash. I thought maybe it was back end stuff. The way I use the internet I break websites regularly, and I’m used to it. I always run in incognito mode, and always with scripting turned off. I white list websites as I find them to be useful or needed, and allow them to get their scripting back, but still in incognito mode.

Am I paranoid? Absolutely. I do not agree with allowing strangers to enter my home. I also don’t agree with letting strangers run their code on my computer. And adds? Don’t get me started on adds. Some 60% of adds on the internet, on Mainstream sites, like CNN, etc… are malicious code.
