Little Frustrated.... Weight Loss

(Steven Johnson) #1

Morning all… I’m pretty new to Keto (2 weeks) and I’m not seeing any weight loss (Well, thats incorrect, I have lost about 2lbs but it keeps going up and down. ) I’m somewhere between 339 and 342 every morning… First week seemed pretty difficult, headaches, sugar cravings, etc. Second week seemed much easier and I noticed I’m not hungry like normal. This is going into my 3rd week and I drink a bulletproof coffee in the mornings and then have a decent dinner (Chicken Quarter + salad) or Baked Salmon and spinach, etc… I assume I’m in Keto, I have some strips coming in hopefully soon that I can verify it with, but in the meantime is this normal? I assume if I just keep at it I’ll lose some weight in time, I AM seeing some good side effects, my almost constant heartburn is gone, I’m sleeping better, and I’m not craving anything anymore… Just wish I could start dropping pounds!

Thanks all, just mostly looking for some advice or reassurance.

The weight will come off when you’re fully fat adapted and your body is able to recognize all that fuel just waiting to be used. When that happens your hunger goes down on its own. Don’t push it! Let it happen naturally. Until then eat the right foods until satisfied so you can make it to the next meal comfortably. Don’t sweat it. If you’re being honest with yourself and you’re not forcing a calorie deficit prematurely, it’ll happen in its own time.

I would focus on these right now.

You didn’t gain the weight overnight so it will take time to lose it. Just eat real food and do NOT calorie restrict it will be counterproductive to you efforts.

I’m sorry you’re feeling frustrated. Here are a couple of things to check: any item you’re eating that has a nnutrition label, look at the list of ingredients. You might discover that you are getting carbohydrate, especially sugar, that they don’t have to report in the percentages, because they’ve manipulated the serving size. (In other countries, the nutrition label has to show the quantities per 100 g, regardless of the serving size so they can’t get away with that kind of crap.)

Be sure to eat enough in each meal to satisfy your hunger, or even if you eat low-carb, your body will still want to hang on to the excess fat. Let your body know there are plenty of calories available, so that it doesn’t feel obliged to hang on to the fat for emergencies.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

It looks like you’re seeing great results! Just keep with it. Some folks have a fairly big drop in the beginning and then it slows down, others have a slow steady drop, and still others seem to be stuck and then drop a lot of weight at once. I don’t know much about it, but there’s a “whoosh” phenomenon that you might want to read up on, since it will probably be reassuring to see how that works for some of us.
Also it can really help to take a few key measurements (neck, waist in particular) and a starting photo! Keto often results in recomposition and the scale just doesn’t measure fat loss. This might not be what’s happening for you now, but it will likely happens somewhere along your path, so tracking a few measurements will help you!

Go over your foods. Double check the labels to see if some sugar or extra carbs are sneaking in somewhere.

If you have no accidental sneaky carbs in there, I’d say you’re eating perfectly as long as you’re not hungry. Just trust the process and give it a bit of time.
