Leanne Vogel Recipe Reviews

(Stephanie Dolan) #1

Started Keto after the new year and I’m really happy with it so far. Losing weight and feeling good. I’m wondering if anyone else has bought and prepared any of the recipes from Leanne Vogel’s Book - " The Keto Diet - A Complete Guide to a High Fat Diet". I’m making my way through the book and would love some reviews of the recipes. Some have been great and some have been not so great. It would be helpful to hear other’s experiences. Maybe a new topic?

I have made several recipes from the book, all of which were excellent and my family also enjoyed most of them. We have tried the bacon wrapped mini meat loaves, grain free porridge, roasted Brussels sprouts, and kickin’ ketchup. The ketchup does not taste anything like commercially made, different texture and clove-y taste that I think is interesting and delicious, but my family not so much. Regular ketchup tastes sickeningly sweet to me now. Interested in hearing your feedback when you try some of her recipes.

I’ve made quite a few as well…

Pepperoni Meetzza - Meh. I really liked the Kale Pate. The sesame seeds add a nice umami flavor and the apple cider vinegar adds a brightness. But the ground beef “crust” needs some serious help. Maybe next time I would add some shredded mozzarella, some garlic powder, and maybe some more almond flour. I’d also add the pepperoni only during the last 10 minutes of cooking to avoid over cooking them.

Flax Seed Cinnamon Muffin - weird texture but good flavor. I liked them heated with a little butter. Next time I might add a touch more cinnamon.

One Pot Hamburger Dinner, Shoulder Chops with Lemon Thyme Gravy, Shredded Beef Tacos, and Verde Caesar Salad with Crispy Capers (with the Caesar Dressing) were all delish!

I also made the Balsamic Turkey Thighs but used chicken instead which worked out fine, Nice flavorful marinade. I marinated for about 8 hours.

I tell ya, not a fan of the flax seed cinnamon muffin. :speak_no_evil:

Definitely a weird texture. I had to make myself get over it because I made 12 and I was not going to throw them away!

Remind me somehow of playdoh. Dense too

I make her Rocket Fuel Latte with a Starbucks Blonde coffee and love it.

The Cajun Pork Belly was amazing. The coconut breaded chicken with homemade ranch dessing was also very good.

Totally agree about the kale pate. Yummy.

But most of the recipies left me wanting dairy. And I have some major complaints with errors between the shopping lists for the weekly meal plans and the recipies.
Nothing worse than trying to make a meal only to realize that the recipie calls for 3 pounds of meat but the shopping list only told you to buy a pound and a half.
The book is filled with these errors.
I finally started compiling the shopping list from the recipies exactly.
Also was confused with portion sizes. Since so much of it was intended to be used latter in the plan, made it difficult to figure out how much you were actually supposed to eat in a serving.

Oh, my son and I also really enjoyed the no nut clusters with coconut whipped cream.
