Last 5-10lbs, motivation, mindset, giving up, bingeing, etc

(Jeanna B) #1

Hey guys. This is my first time posting here. I’ve been Keto since mid-October of last year, except for a week break at Christmas and a few days for cheats, but I tried to limit them. I’ve lost most of my weight, except for the last 5-10 lbs. I know this is the hardest to lose and I know it can take longer, so I’ve tried to be patient. But being almost there has made me more relaxed and as a result I’ve had crazy binge days and days where I’ve gone off track a lot. I feel like being almost there, makes me run the other direction for some reason. I’m wondering if my body just wants to stay at this weight, but I’m not sure. I should be happy with the loss, I’m 33/F/5’5" and 130 lbs. I still have some loose skin from the many years of being overweight. I think the loose skin is bothering me and maybe making me think I’m more fat than I actually am, but I still want to lose another 5-10 lbs. What would be the best strategy to do at this point? I want to hit my goal, but at the same time I’m afraid I won’t get there, so I should just give up and accept what I am now, but I give up easily. Why do I feel like giving up at this point, when I’m almost at the goal? Maybe because I’m impatient and just want the pounds to come off now.
I just don’t know what to do at this point. My daily calorie intake has been pretty low and I know it’s not all about calories but I’m obsessing over food. Maybe I need to eat more but I’m afraid to. MyFitnessPal has screwed my mindset up because I keep focusing on calorie counting. I’m pretty good at hitting my macros but I’ve been way too obsessed over trying to eat lower calories. The average is 1200 a day, unless I go crazy and binge and then it’s 2100-3200cal. I’m not sure if I should start eating at maintenance calories for a few weeks and taper down, or just forget calories and focus on macros? I’m thinking way too much about all this. BTW, I come from a history of disordered eating/bulimia so I’ve been very controlling over my food intake. I wish I could just relax. Any advice?

Sounds like you’ve done great, CONGRATS! Same boat as me I don’t have much body fat to lose, and what I do have (belly) is eww unsightly.

Are you exercising? I’m on track to lose what’s left with exercise being the driver along with Keto and intermittent fasting…

Thank you
I am not exercising. I’m so lazy lol Maybe it’s about time I did start some exercise regime… or do more fasting…

I’m assuming the reason you want to lose 5-10 lbs because you want to look a certain way as opposed to being fixated on the ‘correct’ weight. If so, I would suggest focusing on re-composition instead of weight loss. 1200 calories is very low, which probably contributes to your binges. You would be surprised how much you can eat and not gain weight. I would suggest eating more and lifting heavy weights 3x a week. You won’t end up looking like He-Man, I promise!

You will do it better than you think. You’re now burning fat efficiently and leaning up. Start with ten toe touches and a ten minute walk a day for five days and see how you like it! :running_man:

Good luck!

I really just want to lose the last bit of my belly that’s bothering me, but I guess you can’t really lose in certain areas. It’s stubborn. I’ve heard weight lifting is good. Perhaps I’ll join a gym eventually. It’s weird that even though I’m thinner now, I still think of myself as the fat kid that doesn’t want to work out in front of anyone. But I guess I need to break out of my shell!

Thank you! I do need to start moving my body more. I’ll give it a shot.

I agree, I hate working out in front of anyone and feel super self concious. I joined one of those online gyms and bought myself some resistance bands and a couple of kettle bells so I can workout at home and not feel like a weirdo!!

Who says you can’t lose it? If you’re Keto you’re burning fat. It’s there to burn isn’t it?

I started lifting and amped up other exercise while increasing my calories 1.5 months ago. It’s changed my life!

I hate the gym or classes I do everything at home or on the road, walking/hiking.

I have sunburn…:sunglasses:

(Jeanna B) #11

I definitely like that idea better than the gym!

(Jeanna B) #12

I’d rather do that as well! Guess I’ll just put on my walking shoes and go outside!

I wish I had answers for you. I too am within 10 lbs of my goal a size 12. So what am I am doing is this.love walking for a clear head and good mental health. I too use MFP but I ignore the calorie count. Keep your body guessing by giving it what it needs to fuel itself. So some days I’m at 1500 calories and somedays a lot more like 1900+. However, I have not gained weight. Last month I had a glass of wine every feast day like 3 days a week. Still lost 2 lbs. I’m 58 years young. So my fat loss is slower. I am considering weight training videos on YouTube plenty of body weight videos so no equipment necessary. I can’t tell you how not to obsess but I’m happier for other reasons besides weight loss. Find your joy other than self.
Best wishes

I’m considering zigzaggimg my calories, so is great to hear!

But theses last 2 weeks haven’t lost either. But I had electrlyte issues so I’m taking my time before IF again. So we shall see. But positive didn’t gain either.

(Jeanna B) #16

Thanks so much. I suppose it is good to change things up every now and then. For a few weeks I did alternate day fasting, and then stopped and did something else. Perhaps it’s time I got something else to focus on besides my weight! I need a hobby. :stuck_out_tongue:

Quit tomorrow.

Just remember, too, that you didn’t gain the weight in 6 months, and you can’t expect it to all come off in 6 months. Be patient. Your body may be taking care of some house keeping, i.e. hormonal adjustments, reshaping, etc., and will resume losing weight again when it is ready. Keep calm and kept on.

A couple of things come to mind. 1.scale watching vs measurements. Have you checked your measurements? A person can get fixated on a pound goal and not notice that their size/shape has changed significantly. A keto body seems to be a bit different than what is achieved from the old CICO method. You will read about lots of folks who the scale hasn’t changed, but thier shape has 2. Fasting. Fasting either IF (eg OMAD) or EF (24h+) seems to be one of the ways that folks break through a stall. And metabolically has a way better effect than calorie restriction (calorie restriction drops your metabolic rate to prevent weight loss; fasting forces you to access fat stores)
Be patient, focus on NSV, you’re doing just fine.

I would be very interested in hearing what your electrolyte issues were. What were your symptoms? How do you know it was electrolytes?
I ask because I developed severly swollen ankles a couple of weeks ago and have not been able to get the swelling down.
Please share your electrolyte story
