My keurig finally died this morning after 5 long years of faithful service… I’m going to replace it but my husband wants to get a Nespresso instead of another Keurig. He has a taste for high end products while I am one with more simple preferences. I don’t need fancy things. He wouldn’t even use a Nespresso because he buys his coffee 7 days a week down the street from the local coffee joint. So I’m having a hard time justifying the expense. I need opinions… Is the Nespresso really worth it?
Keurig or Nespresso?
Love my plain, simple, 12-cup Mr. Coffee. Walmart. $20. I do vary the coffees that I use in it. Sometimes hazelnut, sometimes mocha, (or both), sometimes just plain. Sometimes make 4 cups, sometimes 12, sometimes 8, occasionally, two 12 cup pots (when company comes).
Probably not what you were looking for, just sharing. Good luck!
I personally just use a French press, but since you’re the one who’s going to use it, get the Keurig. If your husband really wants the Nespresso he can buy it himself.
I have a Keurig. I don’t drink much coffee so I donated my old school pot style awhile ago. I have never used a Nespresso. I like the Keurig enough, it makes my one cup of coffee when I feel like one. If I drank a lot of coffee I would probably get something with a larger capacity. If he wants to get something nicer and you have the money for it why not try it out? You might prefer it.
All of the single cup brewers are far inferior to even a drip coffee machine…you can’t really do “high end” anyway. Why not get a replacement keurig for you and he can get a nice espresso machine or a french press or something instead? Certainly I understand if budget is a concern (that’s why I just have the keurig!). But it might be an easy decision to satisfy both, possibly.
Can’t comment on the Nespresso (never heard of it…), but I’ve used a Keurig for years and love it.
Money isn’t an issue. I ended up going with the nespresso and it is WWAAAYYY better than a keurig. The coffee is a lot stronger and tastes amazing. Keurig coffee is too weak for my taste and thats using a dark roast with the strong brew setting. The nespresso was totally worth the money. I hate it when my husband is right.
Oh, that’s great! Maybe I’ll look into one of those now. I thought they only did little espresso cups.
I bought the VertuoPlus because it makes coffee and espresso. It also came with a milk frother so I can make frappes, lattes, and mochas. The quality of the coffee is outstanding. It came with a variety of 12 capsules, and there is a Nespresso Boutique store at the mall where I can try and buy new capsules. i think my favorite thing though is that it auto ejects the used capsules into its own trash can hidden in the back so I don’t have to handle hot pods anymore because I hate leaving used pods in my coffee maker.
Yeah Nespresso is good for that, my boss has one in his office. I need to look around me locally and see if any brick and mortars sell the cups.
My k-cups never seem all that hot, but you are supposed to remove them immediately anyway to try to keep the needles clean.
Can the nespresso dispense hot water like the keurig? I like my keurig even though I don’t drink coffee any more because I use it as a glorified tea kettle ;). I only know a little about nespresso, but when I looked at them before it seemed like the pods were very sugary. That might be a deciding factor
It could put out just hot water if you didn’t put a capsule in, but you’d end up with just an expensive kettle. So I wouldn’t bother with it for that. The nespresso capsules are just pure ground coffee. There is no sugar or milk. The frothy layer is just from the water being forced through the grounds.
It looks pretty nice. I had thought about the Keurig and the Nespresso a while back. My sister and brother love the Keurig. But alas I am still using a ancient KRUPS espresso maker I bought in a thrift store for $7.50 about 7 years old. Run some vinegar through every couple of years and it keeps on chugging. I decided I hate the idea of throwing away a little plastic cup to the landfill every time I want some coffee.
The Nespresso cups are recyclable. They even give you shipping materials to send them back to the company for free.
I’ve probably paid for this machine 2xs over in 8 months by not buying espresso drinks. Just a thought. Whole bean is waaayyyyyy cheaper than pods.
Ooo LaLa! I like. Does it take a long time to heat and prime it? I thought about getting a real high pressure espresso machine many times. The KRUPS is basically an electric bialetti that can steam milk but I have it down and have coffee in about 8 minutes.
The capsules are hermetically sealed with no exposure to light or moisture so they taste like fresh ground.
My keurig took 1 minute. my nespresso takes 15 seconds. It also came with a milk frother so yay for steamed milk… even tho… ya know, keto… no milk. my husband will enjoy it though.
