Keto Stick Color

I will preface this by saying I understand theyre not the most accurate things, to say the least. I dont live and die by them, Im actually trying to see the color get lighter at this point, 18 days in.

Having said that, and assuming Im keeping my total carbs (net included) under 20g, which is fact, would the strip color being lighter be any indication at all that Im becoming fat adapted? I calculate my hydration pretty well. I dont drink too much or too little. My strip seems to be getting less dark, which I think Im happy about. Less ketones wasted?

Whatcha think, guys?

I am no expert, but I tried the strips about three months in. Nothing but trace. (I drink a ton of water). At five months I started using a blood ketone meter and was firmly in ketosis. I am at ten months, but don’t have the budget for the blood ketone strips at the moment. Would love to compare to the strips, though. Some forum members are still dark purple at a year, so I honestly don’t know what to tell you. Others say that the strips only measure a ketone that is wasted in the urine.

The color will lighten as you get fat adapted. The more efficient your body becomes the lighter it will get. If keto is something you stick with then consider investing in a blood meter if you want more accurate results. I have a keto mojo and I love it. As long as your staying under 20g of carbs I wouldn’t worry about how dark the strip is.

My strips were almost always toward the higher end of the color chart and I always felt great and my weight loss was steady. I think how old the strips are when we buy them might affect their accuracy.
