Keto reading low after Gluten Free Sausages

Hi,

My Keto reading has dropped from 21 to 10 yesterday, for dinner I had stuffed red peppers with cheese spinach and olive oil with gluten free sausages.

I looked at the gluten free sausages nutrition after eating them and the carbs are 4.9g of which 3g are sugars per 100g which is about 2 sausages I had 3.

So I am guessing the 3g of sugars reduced my Keto, has anyone experienced something similar?

Lots of things will change the levels of ketones in your blood - exercise, time of day, stress, quality of sleep, etc, etc. And eating - eating anything will raise insulin to some degree. How long after eating did you test?

Short answer, don’t worry about it.

It was about 2.5 hours after I had eaten.

I am not too worried just curios the scales are going down each day so I am happy.

Levels are up and down constantly throughout the day.

Red peppers are relatively high in carbs. How many of those did you have?

I find sausages sneaky. As much as I love them - have to limit. Though I find that the ones I buy in the grocery store (packaged, brand name) are more problematic than the ones I buy at the local butcher (thier own recipe, probably less filler if any).

SO I count 7.5g from the sausage. Each whole red pepper is 7g net. Who knows what’s in the stuffing. It likely had corn starch. Even if it was only 10g carbs per pepper, if he had 2 peppers, thats 27.5g of carbs from the meal. Problem found.

Eating anything will lower your ketones to some degree. Other things like time of day, stress, what have you will also affect ketones. Moreover, the degree of ketosis is not correlated with the degree of fat loss, so if your goal is to lose fat you don’t have to worry about your ketones at all. I wouldn’t even bother measuring them, especially when you’re not trying to solve a specific problem.

I am losing fat and weight nicely so not too worried about the ketosis measurement I am more curious.

In a week I have lost 7lbs in weight in 2 days I lost 3lbs which will be the later weight and then rest lost slowly over the week.

I am using a Ketonix so breath.

Based on what you have said, I’d say there were about 17g of net carbs in that one pepper and 3 sausages.
