"Keto diet" has fruit, sweet potatoes, and low-fat cheese on it ?!?

(Jeanne Wagner) #41

Well that’s more like it!! I guess her print out was a modified version? Who the heck knows. I told her it looked more Paleo in nature.

(Jeanne Wagner) #42

@sugar-addict THANK YOU!! I will let her know because we were both confused!! That was crazy.

(Jeanne Wagner) #43

Yeah I didn’t stay there very long because of that.

(Jeanne Wagner) #44

I was listening to the High Intensity Health podcast episode #232 and his guest was a body builder who insists on using fruit in the eating plan to speed up metabolism. He was pretty adamant about it too. He recognizes Keto, but says carbs are better for performance. Those who aren’t as concerned for fast performance stick with Keto. It’s like the hare vs. the turtle I suppose, but not that slow.

(Alec) #45

Did he explain how fructose speeds up the metabolism exactly? Was there any science? Or just biobollox?

(Alec) #46

So I wonder exactly how and why did the keto reference find its way onto that diet sheet??? Smells of someone finding a diet that feels like keto and rebadging it. But why would you do that?? Makes no sense to me.

(Jeanne Wagner) #47

No he just says it’s undeniable, they lose weight so much faster when fruit is incorporated. I don’t believe he’s going crazy with the fruit, but definitely putting in the diet. He’s a professional body builder, well known in that arena I believe. Perhaps it works for them well, I personally wouldn’t do it from my own standpoint. I am not trying build up my body like that, but trying to heal my damage. Perhaps one day when the damage is healed I can eat my blueberries again. I even gave them up.

Carbs are better for short, fast events; keto is better for endurance. So he does have something of a point there. But fruit speeds up metabolism? I’d like to see the science for that. If any.

(icky) #49

Yeah, I’m trying to figure that out too…

Usually in life, if it’s not clear whether something is stupidity or malice, it’s usually stupidity.

The photocopied sheet of paper seems to be a print out of a post on something like Facebook or a forum, with the “save” and “share” stuff on it.

No idea how/ why this boiled egg diet got the word “ketogenic” printed on the bottom.

I think it’s obviously not someone trying to “sell” it to ppl as ketogenic as such.

Otherwise it would be easy to take the diet plan and write KETOGENIC across the TOP of it in big letters, which is not what has happened.

This is just a very unfortunate combination of information, which has been misinterpreted.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #50

Even Dr. Robert Lustig, who is a major campaigner against sugar and high-fructose corn syrup, says that the fructose in whole fruit is okay, because the fiber in the fruit slows down absorption of the fructose to a rate that is manageable for the liver. (He is death on fruit juice, however.)

So your chances of being able to eat blueberries again someday are probably pretty good. Hope this helps.

(Alec) #51

… and the words “boiled eggs diet” removed from the header??? Someone is trying to fool someone. Looks like they succeeded.

(icky) #52

Wow, are you paranoid?

The top of the image just got cut off, the way it often does when ppl share an image online.

Confusing and unfortunate, but if you wanted to mislead intentionally, you’d write KETOGENIC across the top in big fat letters.

Seriously now…

(Alec) #53

I am still a blueberry and raspberry eater. Just these days I also smother them with cream. Numnumnum…

(Jeanne Wagner) #54

Yes that is the general information I’ve heard over and over watching videos and listening to podcasts. Carbs for short bursts but then you run out of them. If you’re not fat adapted, you fail, as in lose your energy because you cannot access the fat stores for continued energy once the sugar runs out.

And yes I would love to see that science too. I wonder if there even is any though…

(icky) #55

See the post by @Robert_Johnson

Where the auto-correct changed “ketogenic” into “photogenic diet” on the same website.

This stuff happens ALL THE TIME

It’s not evil ppl trying to trick people on purpose.

(Jeanne Wagner) #56

Thanks Paul, I was hoping that as well. Whole foods fruit in small quantitites would be wonderful! Fruit truly is the natural desert of the whole food world.

(Jeanne Wagner) #57

Sounds delish! I might sneak some, just like 1/8c.

(Alec) #58

So why was this lady following this diet thinking she was eating keto???

(icky) #59

Because the info is muddled in an unfortunate way.

I’ve written to the healthform.org website guy now explaining the confusion and have posted the link of this thread, asking him to comment.

Sorry—I started to reply to the wrong question, lol!
