Keto Confusion Help

(Lynne Johnson) #1

Hi everyone. I am sort of confused attempting my new keto life and the challenge of staying under 20g of carb. A lot of keto shopping lists state that yogurt and cottage cheese if high fat no added sugars is a great way to get in fats but … its seems so high in carbs still and takes up most of my carb limit.

Both should be fine in moderation. How much are you eating? I tend to limit yoghurts to 150g per serving and that’s Bulgarian which is lower in carbs than Greek. Greek I limit to 100g.

If you are doing total carbs it’s a whole lot easier to use net carbs.

Also, the more single item whole foods on your list, the easier it is keep your daily carb count low. Here’s my current grocery list:

Butter
Eggs
Steak
Chicken Legs
Broccoli
Spinach
Pork Chops
Cheddar Cheese
Heavy Cream

Hi,

Yogurt is special. If it’s the good old fashion sour kind it means the sugar has been converted, hence the sour taste, and the carbs on the label don’t all count. But thanks to modern industrial processesing you really don’t know what you are getting I have been knocked out of keto recently because of a certain low sugar yoghurt.

The advice I received in the early days was avoid yoghurts for the first few weeks get fully established and then carefully add it and see how it goes.

If in doubt don’t
