5 weeks and Stalled so BACK TO BASICS!
So I have lost 10 lbs and for the past two weeks I have gained and lost the same two lbs TWICE!
I raised my calories, proteins, this, that and the third… I decided to look back at MFP (my fitness pal app where I log my nutrition) to see what I was doing to lose and ALAS, fat was the common denominator! When I began eating fat to satiety and not adding more fat to meet caloric goals, I gained weight and had to scramble to get it off. I added sodium and did not add fat, resulting in weight gain. I upped my calories and proteins but didn’t increase fats and yet again, gained. So today, I am returning to BPT (#bulletprooftea-using tazo chai) Uploading… and everything else that has worked for me in the brief time that I have been eating KETO. Pray for me!!!
5’6" current 169lbs starting wt 178
macros 1264 cal 16carbs 63protein 105fat
no health issues–fat loss goal. Been keto since 1/3/17 consistently ketone positive
KCKO added FAT for me
I don’t bother tracking calories. It’s quite useless really. All I track is grams carbs and grams protein. I eat fat to satiety. Simple and it works. I keep carbs less than 20 g and protein 1 g per kg lean body mass. Then the only thing I can add is fat…and can have as much as I want.
if carbs and protein are kept in check, is there really a limit to the amount fat that should be looked at, or whatever it takes to keep you satisfied the rule of thumb?
This. Fat to satiety.
I suppose there are instances when people might eat past satiety. I have. Plenty of times. It really depends on the person. I stopped losing (for now) because when my A1c of 12 got to a normal 5.5 I fucking relaxed my ass off.
It really is an experiment of one.
See if eating fat to satiety works for you. I don’t know your story, but if you are new, relax about fat for now. Your body needs time to adapt.
I’m about 5 months full keto, about 54 lbs down, i keep from overeating protein and carbs by having a lot of fat, I dip just about everything in butter, i put a lot of butter in my BPC, keeps me from being hungry, i’m losing about 4 or 5 lbs a month, its slow but its progress… i lost more in the start, though from mid December to end of January i lost 6lbs…
20lbs in 5 weeks? That is 4lbs per week. That is pretty high weight loss. I would not be worrying about changing anything. Periods of maintenance are perfectly normal and I actually believe the body needs them to catch its breath quite frankly!
I don’t really get this - it sounds like you stopped eating fat to satiety and added fat instead to meet caloric goals.
I am a bit confused to be honest but at the end you say you are back to BPT so are you saying now that fat to satiety IS the way to go? If so, I agree! Forget calories and do what feels right, especially in the early days. For someone who has relatively little weight to lose, you have lost a lot very quickly. I would be doing a jig if I were you!
HOLY SHIT MAN! You go guy!!!
Yeah, what @Daisy said. If it’s working, don’t fix it!!! A pound a week on keto is FANTASTIC
I should have said SW 223 in Dec 2011 down to 154 in April 2012.
I have gained and lost the same 25 lbs since 2012 and I want to get this done!
My calories are already very low so I was concerned about slowing my metabolism. Is that not a concern on KETO? If it is, the only macro left is fat because I am hitting protein and carbs with no issues.
It is very good. 1-2lbs is a great amount to lose per week. It rarely is every week which is why it is good to work out an average over time to even out the maintenance periods.
Your body should tell you how much you need to eat. Once you have had your protein scaled to LBM and included whatever carbs you are going to have, the fat is what gives you your energy, keeps you satisfied and fills you up at meal times. If you are going great guns and have plenty of energy with no hunger or desire to eat more then you are probably utilising body fat so you will still be consuming high fat, it’s just coming from your body.
Just food for thought. You just changed your body to a different fuel source. It wasn’t effective using it this weight loss. It happens. Stalking also happens but the interesting thing here is that your body is burning fat. So if you cut your fat from your meals and let it come from your body instead… You may start to see that stall open up.
This is how I like to do things too and how I’ve approached and lived Keto for three weeks. I like simple. I read a lot of posts and get really bogged down with all the numbers. How in the world can anyone follow all that? I would go crazy trying to keep it all straight!
I do want more support though and for someone to tell me it’s all going to work one day. Sooner than later but I know no one can tell me that. But I don’t feel like I have anything specific to ask the experts, because I don’t have any numbers. I just have how I’m feeling. And I have my hope and determination.

I’ve been wondering if it’s possible to eat too MUCH fat? I’m trying so hard to be patient. Started Keto on January 14, 2017. I come from 4 years of eating/living primally. I lost 40 lbs about 6 months ago. I wonder if it took 3.5 years on primal to finally get to that.
I still have 30lb to go. But mostly, I want energy, stamina, strength, motivation, a clear head. I want no more fatigue. I’m so TIRED all the time. I’m going to continue eating Keto because I believe in it, love the food and am hoping that it will all kick in one day.
I’m not even sure if my quest for encouragement is valid since I don’t have any numbers. I deal with lupus (SLE), but no diabetes or heart disease or any of the other things other people report. I’m not even terribly overweight. I don’t test myself or count anything. I know I’m eating >20 carbs and enough fat for satiety. And I don’t eat too much protein. I have been very careful about all that. But no results yet …
I THINK / HOPE that more time will yield another success story (mine). But it’s so hard to wait …
Yeah I started at 421lbs, I was 367 this past Sunday, my lady is a nurse so I visit her to weigh cause or bathroom scales is a filthy liar… my goal is somewhere around 200lbs… but I’ve not been that wieght since I hit it the first time…
Can you clarify how many carbs you eat. In your last post you wrote > 20 , which implies greater than 20 grams carbs
Oh yeah. I used the wrong symbol. It’s less than 20. Or at the most, 25. Most days I’m 20 or less.
As for protein, I’m pretty certain that I’m eating about what I should. I say that because there are times when I don’t want any protein. And other times when I do. And I don’t eat a lot of it. So I’m pretty sure my body is telling me when to eat it.
