KCKO added FAT for me

(Dean) #21

my problem is after a couple years eating this way i lean to much on protein, it’s not that i forget i need Fat but i do in some odd way, so when i really put an effort on focusing on eating fat to satiety i feel so much better and also feel i’m on the right track.

I have a harder time keeping protein levels in check than carbs.

I would consider tracking carbs and protein closely for a while just so you know what you’re getting for sure. It’s easy to overeat protein and carbs can be sneaky.

If you’ve been at this almost a month you could still be in the “keto flu” phase. Are you making sure to balance out your electrolytes?

Thanks for your suggestions. They are good ones. I have been tracking protein and carbs. It’s how I know that I’m eating 20 or less of carbs. And my protein is adequate because I eat it when I want it. And don’t eat it when I don’t want it. I’m sure I’m at a place where my body is telling me how much protein it wants. I cannot overeat anything.

The first 3 days of going Keto, I got hungry. That’s when I increased my fat consumption. And ever since then, I will stop eating when I’m full. And it’s usually way before I’m done with what I started out eating. I’m still working on realizing how little food it takes to fill me up. For hours!

I do think I’m still in carb withdrawal (I like that better than Keto flu). I’m always tired, can’t think straight and have no energy or motivation. I never had any other symptoms that those but they are bad enough.

I don’t know anything about electrolytes.

Yeah it sounds like you need to supplement your electrolytes. That’ll make you tired, headachey, all sorts of things. When eating keto our kidneys dump (this may not be the accurate reason but it’s the way I understand it) more electrolytes - specifically potassium, sodium and magnesium. You need to supplement those either in pill form or by drinking something like “ketorade” (should be a recipe if you search the forum). Broth and pickle juice also help for a quick pick-me-up.

Here’s a good article about it.

Okay. Well I do supplement with potassium and magnesium already, and I’m sure I get enough sodium in my diet. I’ll look at the info you sent. Thanks!
