Just starting out - Dont want to get bored!

#1

Hi All, new here and fairly new to Keto.

Just starting out dieting again. Done low carb diets before and they did me a lot of good, the only down fall was that I got bored of the food. I hear Keto is a lifestyle and not just a diet so here’s hoping. Any tips to keep the momentum and focus would be appreciated!

Thanks

Get better at cooking. Follow the #food:boringKeto and broaden your repertoire.
Or marvel at how often one poster can eat ribeye with jalapenos and never get bored.

“Keto” is a physiological state, it’s not a lifestyle or a diet. In order to be in ketosis, most people have to adhere to a diet that’s pretty low in carbs. If that wasn’t sustainable for you in the past, “keto” will be similar, unless you do something different than before. Diets that severely restrict a macronutrient (regardless of whether it’s carb, fat, or protein) are inherently more challenging than diet plans that don’t. But if you’re willing to put in the effort, there are many delicious HFLC recipes.

Another way of achieving a ketotic state is via fasting. Regimes vary in length and frequency, but restricting WHEN allows greater flexibility in WHAT is eaten. Some people in my family can maintain a state of ketosis by intermittent fasting and a Paleo diet that’s not particularly LC. Those of us who are less metabolically heathy need a greater degree of fasting to achieve the same results. I can eat whatever I want in a day, so long as its sandwiched in between two days of fasting.

I think people focus too much on what they can have on keto without considering the way things can be used. Bordom shouldnt be an issue so much as specific cravings. I haven’t figired out how to make EVERYTHING keto friendly but I cook keto very similarly to how I cooked before substituting as needed. Possibilities are still endless.

You can have meatloaf just make it with coconut or almond flour… You can have pork chops in mushroom gravy just braise the porkchops and use the broth and heavy cream to make the gravy yourself etc. In virtually all diets meat is the main course and there are very few things you can’t figure out how to do meat wise on keto.

Veggies can be a bit harder simply because a lot of us don’t like most of them anyway. You can figure out all kinds of sauces for them though and hide ones you especially don’t like in sauces you use for meat.

Over all I would take a look at what exactly you liked eating before and see if people can help you figure out how to do something similar.

Are you a meat lover? If so, you’ll love it I have actually spent many months in my life as a carnivore. But I still can’t get over the fear that I can’t live on meat alone. Don’t be swayed by the bad press. Keto is 100 percent better than the SAD. I am three weeks in and have lost six pounds of water weight. I love salads so I have one a day. Cheese? Yummy!

Think of food as fuel. It doesn’t have to entertain you, it just has to stop the hunger.
