Just got me some crunchy critters flour

(Susan) #1

Now I just need to know what to do with it :hushed:. Any suggestions?

(Jeff Waters) #2

I’m afraid to ask… But, what is that?

Omg

As soon as I saw the words ā€˜crunchy critters’, I knew…

A woman after my own heart! I made protein bars! I will write up the recipe and add it to the forum soon. Need to make some more and measure ingredients this time but basically it was cricket flour, coconut oil (this makes the bar a nice firm texture like chocolate), ghee, hemp hearts, and sugar free maple syrup for the sweetener (which was only sweetened with sucralose). I’d like to invent a recipe sweetening with only liquid stevia drops. Cricket flour is expensive! Where did you get yours?

Edit: I added almond and vanilla extract as well. The texture was much like a chocolate bar. My cricket flour is not crunchy btw, but very soft and fluffy like wheat flour.

I was curious about that but when I looked it seemed really expensive. I’ll be interested to hear what you end up making and how it tastes.

It is. I paid $15 for a 1/4 pound, which was about 2 cup measures.

There are suppliers who were cheaper, but their manufacturing process and packaging looked questionable

I think I could only eat this if I didn’t know what is was.

I’ve seen some of these too, though they mix in other types of flour, I hope pure cricket flour takes off and becomes cheaper and easier to find…

Maybe cricket farming is in my future?

Probably depends on if they were fed organic non GMO corn or not.

Pasture raised, grass finished would be another upcharge.

Ditto @Bahrutile!

(Susan) #15

It is expensive here in the UK too. As long as things don’t wriggle when i eat them all will be well. Will report back. Thanks for recipe Brenda x

I would love to try this. My only reservation is the possible use of insecticide to catch the critters.

(Dustin Cade) #17

Just takes a few to make a bunch

(Guardian of the bacon) #18

Probably organically farm raised.

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #19

Lol. They are raised in sterile conditions by the thousands. No ā€œcatchingā€ involved.

Perhaps we need a DIY option for cricket powder. :joy:
