Instant Pot in Australia and New Zealand

#21

Yes @Andy1, you can cook a 2.2kg chicken confortaby in a 6l instant pot. The chicken will probably touch the sides unless you truss it up, but that doesn’t effect the cooking in any way. A 2.2kg seems to slot nicely into the pot you won’t need to use any effort to get it in…

here’s some pics. This chicken is a 2.2kg or an "extra large’ chicken in NZ

Prepped ready for sauté

In the pot before pressure cooking

Done! (And fall off the bone delicious)

If it helps…I set up an account through MyUS and I can buy anything in the US and it is shipped to an American address. They then ship it to me. You can buy lots of things and they hold it for you until you give them the go-ahead to ship. Food for thought :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

@MsMonny That’s an awesome idea, which is a really useful way to get some things that are otherwise unable to be shipped outside the USA.

However with electrical appliances NZ and Australia need to source products from countries which have a 240v mains supply.

American appliances are 120v and will not work in Australia and New Zealand, without an expensive and cumbersome converter.

That is the reason it was suggested to use amazon.co.uk, the voltages of the appliances will be compatible with our local mains supply.

Ahhh! Ofourse! Bugger.

You can go for a 8L Kogan equivalent as they work brilliantly… I recently upgraded my old multicooker as wanted 6L to this model and has been just brilliant.

Thanks for the post. I have wanted one for ages after seeing someone rending there own lard.

looks like it has great specs. My only concern would be on going service and spare parts/accessories.
I’ve ended up buying the 6L instant pot from amazon uk and all the accessories from Amazon usa as the accessories would not ship from the uk.

Tip for those buying the 6L pot for shipping to australia/nz, you have to select the seller as amazon.co.uk and not instant pot to get a unit that will ship to aus/nz

then like i said, if you want any accessories, get those from the US site

For those concerned about getting the Instant Pot shipped to NZ/AUS, just use a shipping redirection service in the Amazon UK store:

  1. Shop Amazon UK store: Check to make sure you’re getting the 220-240V version of the Instant Pot: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Instant-Pot-Electric-Pressure-Stainless/dp/B00OP26T4K/

  2. Also shop for a power plug adapter: You’ll want to get a power plug adapter from UK to NZ / AUS

  3. Ship to a shipping redirection address. There are plenty out there that will provide you with a US-based address and which then forward your mail to NZ / AUS / wherever.

And voilá, you have the 220-240V version delivered to you in NZ / AUS

Hi, when you say you have to change the plug, do you mean via a plug adapter or did you take it to an electrician to professionally change it?

It’s an electric kettle style lead, the sort that are removable.
Its possible you may have one from another kitchen appliance that would fit and be the same rating. Sometimes rice cookers are supplied with the same sort of lead.
There are various types of computer equipment such as printers and computer monitors that use the same type of lead so you may have one of those spare you could utilise.
Otherwise you could purchase one cheaply from an electrical supply shop and as a last resort you could get an electrican to change the plug but that would probably be the more expensive option.
Hope that helps!

I have mine but was trying to get one for a friend and seems they are no longer available at Amazon UK. Very sad.

(Rob) #32

There are other “instant pot” a-likes all over. In the UK Amazon there is something very similar called the Pressure King. Look for Electric Pressure cookers in NZ and you may find other brands… they probably all come out of the same factory in China.

Harvey Norman has several (though the cheapest is $132) but most are $200 or more.

I seem to remember reading that in the UK they were having supply problems before Christmas, and a vague recollection of them having more stock in late January. It may be worth contacting them for an update.

(Cath) #34

You are quite right. They got back to me to say they would have stock in Feb/March. Happy now that I didn’t buy an imposter lol

#35

That’s great to hear!!

(Louise ) #36

Ohhh that would be good to keep an eye on it - and if they go on special!

(sabura) #37

Hi cath,
I’m new to this forum, i have been meaning to get my hands on the instant pot, however i live in Australia and not finding this product on the amazon uk website, could you please share the link of the seller you contacted .
Many thanks.

(Cath) #38

Good Morning,
At the moment the guys at Amazon have no stock. They say there should be stock back in late in March.
It’s the only place that I have managed to buy one before. Now I’m getting one for a friend.
Just keep your eye out.
I’m waiting patiently too.
Regards
Cath

I know this is an old thread but I’ve been trying to find info on getting an Instantpot in NZ. Unfortunately looks like Amazon UK no longer sells them and what I have been able to find on their site, there is no way I am spending 599 quid on one!

Has anyone been able to get one into NZ in the last 6 months? If so how/where etc?

#40

just checked and it looks like a supply problem. They appear to be out of stock even directly from Instant Pot UK. The link below shows most products are out of stock at the moment.

It might be worth emailing them to see when they are getting more in?
Best of luck!
