Insomnia again

(Miss E) #1

After the keto flu passed I had 2 or 3 nights of good sleep. Today my ketones were a little lighter but still in the dark pink. It’s almost 5am and I’m awake.

I fasted 16 hours yesterday and 15 today so not sure if that’s made a difference. Guess my question is does a bounce back into insomnia mean I dropped out of ketosis?

Oh and the other thing I noticed is during keto fku when I was laying in bed my feet, ankles and lower legs felt really tight, heavy and warm and they feel that way again tonight. I did miss my kiver supplement and magnesium for a day or two so maybe that contributed.

How much sleep are you actually getting? For me it means my body doesn’t need the rest it used to from processing the crap it used to and is ready to go with less rest. I rarely sleep more than 5-6 hours a day

depends, my sister woke me up for the gym this morning so was less about how much my body wanted. Durint keto flu I was waking up after about 3 hours. Now I can sleep 6-8 hours.

Does not sound like insomnia to me.

Since starting the keto diet 10 months ago I now wake up with the sunrise no matter what time I go to bed, great in winter, not so great in summer. If you are going to bed early enough to still get 6-8 hours sleep then great.

Once you accept those long sleeping in mornings are a thing of the past you get up and enjoy the day!

Waking up naturally is normal on the keto diet.

On the nights I have insomnia I can’t get to sleep till 5am/5:30. and that is usually only with some assistance.

I’m curious now whether people on keto in general function better on less sleep

In general, I seem to need less sleep with the ketogenic diet (eating this way for 5 months now). I have done one extended fast. I was unable to fall asleep until about 6:30am the first night ( after the first 26 hours). Slept VERY well for the rest of the fast.

When I checked my ketones that first morning after i finally got a couple of hours of sleep, my ketones were 6.1. The highest they’ve ever been. Before or since.

so no problems sleeping during general keto?

I don’t think so. Though I sleep fewer hours in total, I wake up feeling better rested. I think I’m not needing as much sleep as I used to, when I ate a lot of carbs.

I guess when there is less to heal and digest the body doesn’t need as much sleep. Either that or the body thinks we need more time awake to hunt for our food :joy:
