I'm having a hard time bouncing back. ( I cheated)

Hi y’all. I’m a newb here but I’ve been Strict Keto since April. For the last 3 weeks though i have cheated. Binged on bread and noodles. I feel really awful and promised that i will get back to Keto but alas I’m really having a hard time. I’m planning an extended water fast to “reset”. Any tips on getting your head back in the game? Thanks in advance

Make the decision to commit and be 100% intentional with all of your eatings/actions to going back to the ketogenic way of eating.

After that, it is just planning to make things as easy as possible. Meal prep to make your dinner and lunches an easy choice. Keep keto snack foods such as nuts, eggs, cheese, cured meats on hand so you can grab and go versus turning to non keto foods.

Thank you! Idk what’s wrong with me. I didn’t realize it would be this hard to go back after cheating.

Nothing wrong with you. Sugar addiction is real no matter what form it comes in, a Mars bar or a baguette. I have been in a 12 step program for over 28 years and your experience sounds no different then someone who binged in one of the other addictions. If I could add something to Aawa’s comment it would be this. Plan only for the next day. that is all any of us can do. I am not depriving myself of anything, instead I am choosing a healthier way of living for today only. I can make other decisions tomorrow.
From a personal POV I also do not read the recipes often. I do not let myself look at food porn ( often). I know what I am eating and also do not put myself in tempting situations as of yet. This all helped me back then and it serves me now. Welcome back.

This makes much more sense to me. Since it’s a WOL not a diet,i want to commit to it but not depriving myself. I feel really guilty afterwards though. I will take it one step at a time, starting tomorrow. Thanks a lot Mark

Forgive yourself and have some :bacon:, than a little more :bacon:
It is good to have a feast before and after your fasting days.

It is almost time for Zornfast, you might want to join in that with @BrendaZorn and the gang.

What is your goal, why exactly are you trying to eat LCHF? Be honest with yourself.

(Jalyn ) #8

Are they doing an extended fast? I’ll check them out. Thanks

Sugar/food addiction is real. I just did what I told myself was a “refeed” after 6 months of super strict keto getting me to the lowest I’ve ever been, and I binged (on fat, but still binged) for 4 days. I ate a WHOLE chocolate cheesecake in 2 days! That is a sickness. THAT is why I have to NOT allow myself to go off the rails too often. It’s like an alcoholic walking into a bar. You just can’t let yourself open that door.

The good thing about that is next time you see a chocolate cheesecake you can just think ‘yeah, been there, done that, do not want’

The best thing you can do is learn from the experience. What led to that point? What were the triggers or reasons for the slip into old habits? Unpick what happened that led to it, what was going on during and where you are at now. It is a good idea to write it all down so that you can look back on this down the line. See if you can work out some strategies to put in place for when similar issues arise agin in the future - because they will. Bingeing is quite an extreme reaction, beyond a little of this and that. It is something really worth exploring and figuring out what is going on. This is actually a great opportunity to learn things about yourself. xxx

Maybe doing a water fast after falling off the wagon would be too difficult. It seems getting keto food back in so you can satisfy the need and comfort of eating might be a better restart and once you are keto adapted again, then try to fast.

Just a thought. You can do it, what ever path you choose. Have confidence!

Edith

I am easing through it again. I was staring at a cheesecake my mom made me earlier and felt like crying but I read all these and realized my priorities. Thanks a lot for the tips! Ill do a water fast during the weekends.
