IF 20/4 question

(Cheryl) #1

So, I’m new to this however, been doing keto for awhile.

I started IF with 18/6 fast & the other day I Started doing a 20/4 fast.

How long can I do this for?

Does anyone do IF Monday-Friday and then weekends eat a regular keto meaning breakfast, lunch & dinner?

You can do 18:6 or 20:4 for life if it suits you. Eating breakfast on the weekends every week won’t have any adverse affect other than you won’t be spending as much time in fasting mode, and it might make you a little more peckish around breakfast time during the week than you would be if you never ate it.

Whatever works best for you, remember to switch it up from time to time !

I been doing 1 meal a day (early keto dinner) for 7 months. About 3 weeks ago felt alittle wierd not sure increased my fat and calories a bit. Then felt good again.

You can do it as long as you like, if you still have weight to loose, you will want to switch it up. You will eventually stall. It’s great for maintenance once you get there!

When you mean switch it out, what do you mean by that? Can you tell me an example? (Sorry if this is a dumb question) because I feel that I’ve stalled bc I’m always doing 20/4 so what now?

What I mean by switch it up is, don’t keep a perfect schedule. Eat two meals a day for a week, then go back to your normal IF. Or, throw in an alternate day fast or a 2-3 day fast just to keep your body guessing. I try to keep no schedule at all myself, just eating when I feel like it. Most days it is just one large meal, but the fasted hours are never consistent. But I’ve been keto for almost 3 years, so I’m cruising.

Hi there, great thread!

I’ve been IF for about 3-4 months…let’s see, started in mid-March so, ya, 4 months now, wow! I’m doing it for all of the incredible health benefits that are at a cellular level, but also in hopes of getting a handle on BG as well as dropping the extra 15lbs that are still hanging around.

I started the IF with 16:8 and after about a month went sort of naturally/easily to 20:4, sometimes 23 hours, whatever. I’ve found that adding in the 2-3 day fast on occasion works well for me too, but I have to say, my BG (just using a glucometer, no $ for “real labs”) is still very variable and I can have a FBG reading of over 100.

Anyway, IF is a great tool in general and not as hard as it may seem. Give it time and your body really adjusts quite well. Sorry for the rambling…
