Ice Cream Maker recommendations?

(Roxanne) #1

Thinking about getting an ice cream maker as hubby really misses this, and i’ve made a few keto versions without one but the texture isn’t quite right. Is it possible to make a decent ice cream with sweeteners such as Swerve with an ice cream maker?

Thanks - I saw that recommendation earlier but it isn’t available on amazon.ca, plus a bit more than I’d like to spend, I think!

I was listening to another podcast and they recommended a couple of Cuisanart icecream makers. I want to say the i30? or 31??

(Brad) #5

Yes it was mentioned in this podcast

I bought myself this one and I love it. Best feature: no need to put the thing to freeze for hours. Just put the ingredients in and an hour later you have ice cream

It’s 120$ on sale in the US

I’ve got a Cuisinart double-bowl (can do one or two bowls) ice cream maker. It works (worked) fine for regular ice cream, but I’ve found that with the keto ice cream recipes I’ve tried, I end up with it frozen way too solid for me to enjoy.

There may be recipes that freeze softer, but most that I’ve seen recommend using alcohol (which I avoid).

Personally, I find that the 5-minute ice cream recipe recommended by @siobhan works a treat:

No, you don’t usually get all of the cream frozen consistently, but I like the soft-serve texture, and it tastes great.

That’s awesome. I’ve had an ice cream maker for years and years but have never used it because I’ve never once had room in my freezer

I’ve heard that the Carrie Brown recipes use xylitol because of this?

I have had this one for years and love it! Its quiet and makes ice cream in about 20-30 mins. I keep the bin in my deep freezer all the time. You never know when the urge for ice cream will hit!

I, a bonafide sugar and ice cream addict, just bought a Cuisinart ICE 21 with an extra bowl (Amazon) because Carrie Brown recommends it and she created her entire book of keto ice creams for easy use with this machine. She was working on a savory ice cream recipe, but I don’t know yet if it’s in the book.

I have the cuisinart 1.5 quart ice cream maker and both of Carrie Browns ice cream cook books. This morning I just churned up the Maple Bacon Crack flavor. Every other flavor I’ve made has been very good so I highly recommend her ice cream cookbooks.

If you already have a kitchenaid stand mixer, their ice cream maker attachment is excellent and I highly recommend it.
Otherwise, any of the above are also great!

(Roxanne) #15

Unfortunarly, no!

(Roxanne) #16

Thanks - alas it is not offered in :canada:

(Roxanne) #17

Have you used it yet @wheeghee?

(Roxanne) #18

Thanks - I just saw a listing for a used one of these, I’m going to chase it down.

No, it’s sitting on my counter, taunting me. I was gonna wait till after the zornfast, which I just completely bailed in after 42 hours, lol. So maybe tomorrow?! I have to hunt down ingredients.

If anyone is not yet convinced of the yumminess of the ice creams in this cookbook, I just made the Maple Bacon Crack ice cream and it is awesome! Even my “not a fan of bacon” husband really liked it.
