You can cheat! Mmmm! Get some raw dark chocolate (organic) and/or cacao (organic) add a little organic stevia some black walnuts (0 sugar) and you have some keto friendly treats!
Best way to go for a while, nothing around to tempt. I was 6 months into keto last Christmas. I made a few ālegalā sweets and had those when the others were eating the 7 desserts on the bar, so I did well in that respect, but I over-indulged on them because they were there. I still donāt keep much sweet stuff around even 18 months in - maybe 1/3 of a Lilyās Dark Chocolate bar occasionally.
Omg NOOOO, thank you so much for sharing and gives us a heads up⦠I myself have been thinking about āwhat ifā. So taking your advice and staying stronger on Ketoā:wink:
Iāve been strict keto (20 or fewer grams carbs per day) since May 26, 2018. Only one time have I cheated. I had some cheesecake on Fatherās Day. Since then, Iāve been tempted but I always realize that itās not worth it and have a zero carb protein powder shake with heavy whipping cream and some mct oil.
I totally understand the idea of taking that great keto feeling for granted. I had gone almost 4 months without any kind of sweet dessert or high carb snack. Then, last week, during a night class, my instructor stuck a box under my nose as a reward for some class activity. I put my hand inside and pulled out an ice cream bar. You know, the chocolate covered crunch kind. I sat looking at it for awhile, knowing it would throw me out of ketosis and that this was my first real test. I wish I could say that I passed, but sadly I did not. I didnāt just eat that sugar bomb, I inhaled it. I would also like to think that I was just being polite and preventing the instructorās embarassment, but I cannot honestly say that either. I ate that ice cream because I wanted to eat it.
The ok news is that it didnāt throw me completely out of ketosis and my BG recovered fairly quickly. The real takeaway for me is that no matter how good the keto feeling is, the sugar addiction is always lurking underneath. I know that if I had been given a whole box of those things at that moment, I would have eaten every one of them.
Againā¦this is just my experience but for meā¦It has taken 5 days to finally feel ānormalā againā¦like I did before the cheat/treat/punishment
For most people non ketoā¦bacon, eggs, cream etc are a ācheat/treatā ā¦How lucky we are on keto to have those treats everyday, lose weight, regain health and feel amazing mentally
This Is exactly what happened me too. I wouldnāt have eaten them if they werenāt there to eat! I just know now itās best not to have that kind of stuff around
I cheated last night and ate a whole family sized bag of hot cheeto fries. Always been my binge weakness. This morning I had upset stomach, burning bum, and just overall agitated feelings. You arenāt alone, I also took keto for granted. Started back on track today.
Itās so not worth it. Good on ya for Getting back on track again today. Itās the only way!
@Dimplestilskin āArtificial Sweeteners are a Gateway Drug to the real thing!ā
You are right on. I avoid all sweeteners now. Because I have done EXACTLY what you have done. I have the ZERO carb (which, BTW, is meaningless, because ZERO IMPACT on INSULIN/GLUCOSE is all that should matter to us, and tests show otherwise), and it OPENS MY DESIRE for sugars, like an ADDICTā¦
I view it this way. I am so addicted to sugar⦠(Iāve eaten a 1/2 gallon of ice cream with 3 bananas in a sitting)ā¦
That using the artificial sweeteners is like giving a Crack Addict (who is recovering), a TASTE of Cocaine!
What would you expect to happen after that? You have just triggered their ātasteā for the drugā¦
Good job to identify this trigger, and writing about it, helps everyone who comes after you!
Or just buy this.
I just stocked back up. This is half what I usually buy. 2g net carb per 1/4 bar. And it tastes AWESOME.
Aw thatās a great way to describe it!! Like giving a recovering addict a little bit of crack! Ive spent the last week since then craving sugar. Itās easy to see how a ācheat mealā turns into a ācheat dayāā¦to a ācheat weekā until keto is a distant memory. Like you, I just have to avoid sweeteners etc. I was actually doing just fine without them until the what seemed to be at the time a āharmlessā syrup incident. I know not everyone would have the same experience as me but I canāt believe the knock on effect of that day had on me physically and mentally for the week that followed. Lesson learned!!
Thanks for your response!
Keto cheescake saved me the first week of keto! I keep them in the fridge in case of sweet attacks but i hardly ever have them anymore
My name is Kirk too. When I was a captain in the fire service I was naturally Captain Kirk. I even had a driver named Scott
