I started an extended fast today

(carl) #1

I’m in London at NDC (http://ndc-london.com) and don’t want to fall prey to the stresses of traveling. I had a relaxing day of downtime yesterday that ended with an awesome ribeye, and started a fast today. I have no end in site, could be 2 days, could be a week, could be until Breckenridge in February. We’ll see.

I took my BG and ketone reading this AM. My BG was 90, and my ketones were .2. After a 45 minute walk, my ketones are up to .3, which is pretty normal. I won’t be able to get on the scale until the 24th. Wish me luck.

Anyone else dong an extended fast right now?

The Zornfast starts on Thursday, so if you’re still traveling, you’ll just be one of us!

Good Luck!

I started an extended fast Sunday night. I want to go until at least Saturday, or possibly longer. My main goal is to cut inflammation and take good care of my liver, which I am fairly certain I have been unkind to. (I wouldn’t mind breaking through a plateau I’ve been at for a couple months either and getting to a new set point.)

I am doing an extended fast. My first one in a while. I find 24 hour fasts very manageable and have completed a few extended 48 hour fasts and one 72 hour fast since my journey began May 2015.

I have chosen to approach my current fast in increments of 24 hours. Each morning I set 2 goals:

  1. Listen to my body and its is okay to break the fast at anytime.
  2. Fast until 9 PM (my start time)

I am doing a sort of water fast. I call it “muddy water fasting” lol. Yesterday I had coffee + cream + stevia and an electrolyte drink. I had 30 grams of unsweetened coconut to tame my hunger around 5pm yesterday. Today, so far, black coffee and water.

I have read multiple times that fasts enter a different feeling after one surpasses 48 hours. Don’t tell my brain, but I would like to go 5 days, lol. I’m halfway there

Still going going strong. So far feeling pretty good. Currently marking 92 hours. Woo hoo!

I made it! A few observations:

  1. My heart rate was elevated, around 110, 3 mornings. Blood pressure was normal throughout.
  2. Surprisingly I was hungry from around 4 to 6 pm days 3, 4 and 5; I wanted to gnaw my arm off today.
  3. I had one bowel movement (evening of day 2).
  4. For those who calculate the glucose ketone index, I reached a ratio of 1 on days 3 (pm reading), 4 and 5 (am readings).
  5. Glucose readings were phenomenal! I reached double digits by day 3 (am reading).

Happy extended fasting :sunglasses:

OK, that’s great. I’ll do the Zornfast with you on Thursday, and do IF until then. I walked for 2 hours all around London today.

About 60 hours in now. Fun to see the scale moving again.
