I saw that. I just think it’s dangerous waters to instruct people to start or stop medication. From what i read from OP, it sounded like they were doing everything right, so I suggested that given history of medical issues and medications, probably better to involve a physician. None of us are reading vitals or checking blood levels from our phones. I don’t have much respect for mainstream doctors but in the presence of serious medical conditions, probably best to work with them
I need help 🙏
Thank you Meghan, I understand every body is different but if you don’t mind please share how long did it take for you to loose the 22lbs…
Was it gradual or did it take a while to start and continue loosing.
I hope adding back the metformin will do the trick for me . Were / are you using meds for pcod? I’m using birth control for it.
You have to get your blood sugar under control before your body will be able to even tap into its fat reserves. Make this your priority instead of focusing on losing weight at this early stage.
I am also T2DM and barely lost any weight on keto. If you can afford exogenous ketones they really brought down my BG. Fasting is much cheaper way. Read Dr Fong’s two books.
Keep it up your body will figure it out eventually.
Good grief who’s downvoting the MD on this thread for telling OP to get back to her doctor’s prescribed meds. Metformin is not a glucose lowering agentnonits own. It helps with insulin sensitivity anf is in general an ok drug to be on as it doesn’t trigger hypoglycemic reactions as you decrease carbs.
OP cou ld definitely do worse than following the advice of @VLC.MD.
Do you realize that the person you are claiming is going to kill someone is a doctor and do you realize the OP quit their meds that they were prescribed…?
Thank you!!!
I have seen his suggestions help many others on this forum along with myself!
A doctor giving out medical advice on the forums. Awesome. That sounds responsible
I assume he checked blood work or at least vitals first
He just said maybe you should go be k to doing what the original doctor said to do.
i don’t see he did anything wrong. He didn’t diagnose anything, just advised the OP to go back on the meds their own doctor had prescribed that never should have been stopped so abruptly.

For me, I lost about 8 pounds right away. I’m not on any meds and am not currently using birth control for hormone regulation ( I should though, just haven’t renewed my prescription) Most of those 8lbs was water I’m sure. Then it was slow. I’d lose a few pounds here and there then nothing for 10 days but I just stuck with it. My weight loss has been spread out over 3 months. Not super fast by any means, but it’s been the easiest weight I’ve ever lost. Just be patient with yourself is my best advice.
I agree. I stopped mine because I was taking 1,000 mg 2x a day. And when I accidentally missed a day, I felt better and my BG continued to improve, and still does after month and a half of no Metformin.
I’ll be seeing my doctor in about two weeks and will consult with her about taking the Metformin to a much lower dose to simply help with the diet, instead of my diet trying to help the meds.
[EDIT: I officially remove my endorsement of the CVS brand glucometer. It has been off horribly. As much as 60 points. This morning I tested with it, I showed 164. Yowza, Test again, 158, sigh… Test again, 138. I then tested with the one the VA gave me (that has test strips that cost $1 each). It showed me 109, with a second test of 108. I tested with the cvs brand again, 148 ]
I bought a CVS brand glucometer for $10 (regular price was $19, still affordable in my opinion) and the test strips are the cheapest I’ve seen as well. Pack of 50 for $12. I’ve been checking my BG very often. I keep track of it as well. And I mean keep track as in what time I ate, what I ate, how much I ate, the time I tested BG. I even take notes about my bike riding. I’m getting improvements all around.
For instance, I can see a sudden shift in my heart rate while riding. My standing heart rate was 90. On the bike after 10 to 15 minutes it would max out at 125. It would take maybe 10 to 20 minutes to return to 90. But now it’s starting at 80ish, and climbs to a max of 110ish (I think it went as high as 113). I write this stuff down so I. An see the correlations. Correct if you say correlation is not the same as causation, but hey, it’s at least looking in the right direction. With enough data I will be able to say with pretty good certainty that this causes that.
So Test often. And right it down.
Nothing wrong with advice. He isn’t diagnosing anyone. I’d be very concerned at that. Telling someone that maybe they should go back and do what their doctor told them to do is perfectly responsible.
Now, had he told her to stop Keto, and go eat a diet based on the Standard American Diet based on the 1977 food pyramid, then I think he should be sued for malpractice, along with anyone who is currently indorsing that piece of lesé.
Thank You everyone for your time and inputs. Esp Manu - Knusperflocke for introducing me to such an amazing group and VLC.MD for suggesting I restart my metformin. Without any change in the diet and just adding 500mg / day of metformin I lost 5 pounds from Christmas Eve. I am was about to give up on Keto after 38 days because of no results but in 9 days I lost 5 lbs and it’s such a hopeful wonderful feeling to start the new year! Thank You again everyone
@Eightyeight, keep on plugging! Every one of us is in a unique situation. So many people lose quickly when they start keto that it makes it a bit discouraging for those of us who don’t see those fast results. I’m not diabetic, but my metabolism is so whacked out from 60 years of SAD and yo-yo dieting that it’s taking some time for the ship to right itself. I’ve lost 45 pounds since April (first 6 weeks of that was CICO, then a friend convinced me to try keto). That’s not a lot compared to others, but I’m happy with it because (a) my leaky gut is healing in the absence of grains, sugars and additives; (b) my thyroid is functioning better than it has in years; and © I don’t feel like I’m starving all the time! That’s a lot to be thankful for.
One other comment - I’ve seen lots of anecdotal stories and have had some experience with cow’s milk products causing stalls or even weight gain, and some keto folks go dairy free for that reason. There are a lot of people who are “milk sensitive” without being lactose intolerant. It looks as if you have plenty of other options for protein and fat, so that’s something to think about/try at some point in the future if you need to adjust something. I know too much cheese brings my weight loss to a grinding halt. I love the stuff, so it’s easy to work to much into the eating plan. Just another thought to add to the mix.
Happy New Year! It’s going to be a great one.
I am so thrilled for you!!! I am so glad you kept sticking with it. Looking forward to more success postings from you!
Just looking back to see how things were going for you, @Eightyeight - so, how are things going?? Is it still a Happy New Year?
