I am in keto for 38 days now . Using keto calculator I measured my intake and not consuming more than the 20% deficit. I am also meeting my calorie goal. Carbs less than 20grm. Protein 70grm and data 130gram for a woman 5 '6" tall and weighing 223+ lbs on day 1 of ke to.
Almost 15+ days I was able to do IF 16/8 and rest all days I did 14/10. Majority of my intake is eggs ( free range non gmo) , cheese and panner ( cottage cheese). All cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, mushrooms etc. Macadamia nuts measured when not at home to snack on and avoid a hunger attack. No other nuts, flour, or anything. water intake min 2.5+ liters. In these 38 days I indulged in bpc with stevia + hwc maybe 5 times. I use only coconut and olive oil. Meats I eat chicken , goat and fish ( salmon) but very occasionally. Inspite of all this I have not lost a single pound. I am diabetic but stopped using metformin when I started keto. I do not have hypothyroidism / thyroid. I have PCOD for which I use birth control to have a consistent monthly cycle. I have never put on weight on birth control unlike many and in fact earlier lost weight on it when my younger because it keeps my hormones / cycle regulated.
My weight on keto day1 was 223.6 pounds and day2 reduced to 220.8 ( maybe initial water weight) but after that I have not lost a single pound. I donโt have any inch loss on my arms, waist, thighs, abdomen, or hips. No fat loss on face / neck.My clothes do not fit different. What am I missing? What am I not doing right ?
I need help ๐
Iโd restart metformin and
use myfitnesspal to calculate your macros.
increase fat intake.
reduce your protein intake.
and youโll be surprised how well your 2018 year of Keto helps you feel better.
Thank you VLC.MD.
So does that mean I need to take 1500mg of metformin within the 10/ 8 hour window that Ian eating?
Youโre going to recommend someone starts metformin after reading a post on the forum. Wow. These forums are going to kill someone. Maybe discuss it with your doctor
They were already on Metformin. And iโm sure the forums will cause scores of death. Just to be safe, why donโt you piss off so youโll be safe.
Fat Mike , my doctor is only wanting to increase my metformin dosage . I did 90+ days of only juicing in 2016 . ( not continuously but time periods of 30/15/10 days with LCD rest of the days) my hba1c numbers came down but With time I gained all the weight I lost 35+lbs and also my hba1c increased.
Keto was my last Hope at loosing weight .
Meformin is Keto Friendly.
Itโs better than running high sugars !
Metformin would be safe to wean if your blood sugars are running low.
Itโs very very hard to get severe hypoglycemia on Metformin.
I was prescribed 1000/mg day in 2012 but had been taking only 500/ mg. With my weight loss in 2016 the numbers reduced but my doctor did not want to reduce the dosage. 2017 as I gained my weight back my numbers of hba1c increased too and Dr has increased my dosage to 1500mg/ day. My last reading in nov2017 was 6.7 . When I started keto on nov15th I went cold turkey and stopped the 500mg/ day that I was religiously taking.
Itโs strange but on LCD I have felt hypoglycemic many times. I always used to bite on an Apple. Sometimes a protein bar. But since I started Keto esp after day3 I have never felt shaky, dizzy. I feel hunger but never accompanied with the hypoglycemic effect.
So youโre tracking your intake, doing IF and still not losing weight. Are you measuring your BG? Iโm guessing itโs too high to get into lipolysis. Somehow, you gotta get your insulin level down. If diet and IF isnโt doing it, the next step is extended fasting. I suggest doing this under physician supervision, since diabetics can get hypoglycemic.
I stopped measuring my blood glucose in 2014. So you think my sugar could be highโฆ Then as VLC.MD suggested I will take metformin 500,mg after first meal. I cannot get physician supervision because they will never support me
But never felt hypoglycemic on keto and felt good but not looking any weight is making me feel so disheartened because my objective with keto is to loose at least 50lbs and reach my prepregnacy weight
Walmart has cheap strips and cheap glucometers.
You should start checking now.
Especially if you are going to Keto.
That is a good thing already that you are no longer feeling light headed and shaky. You also should not feel very hungry when on Keto. Your test strips show that you are in ketosis, but still not losing. I always told myself that it took years to accumulate all that weight and that it wonโt come off in a few weeks. It is a longer process, especially for women. Men lose way faster on Keto than women. Our cyclical hormonal changes make weight loss harder and more complex.
When I have a stall, an extended fast will usually get things rolling again. Anything over 24 hours should get things into the right direction. We have a fasting sub forum here as well, you may want to read some topics over there.
Please hang in there. Do not give up. Your start seems a little harder than perhaps most people experience, but eventually you will get there and as soon as your liver will start converting fat into glucose your pounds will melt.
Hope so too Manu. Planning to start metformin from tonight. Will also look for glucose meter and order strips. Maybe I should give it more time.
If not for you I would have put 38 days of keto down the drain this noon. Thank you again
@Fat_Mike seems the OP was already on metformin and stopped it themselves without checking with anyone first. @VLC.MD was only advising them to go back on the medication their doctor had put them on rather than stopping it suddenlyโฆ
Your starting line is almost exactly where I started: 5โ6 female, PCOS, 230 pounds (not diabetic though) Keto has done me wonders. Iโm down 23 pounds but it is a slow process. And it sounds like you are doing a lot all at once and it may be stressing your body. The transition to ketogenic diet/ calorie deficit/ IF/ medication changes can be taxing you and upping your cortisol hormone levels making weight loss tough. My advice is to make sure you have a little if any calorie deficit for a while and maybe let off on the IF temporarily just while you fully adjust to Keto diet. This advice is only based off my own success not restricting calories and not intermittent fasting yet. Stick with it even if you arenโt losing weight the Keto diet is doing other health wonders for you, your weight loss will catch up!i
