I’ve had my first extended fast today (unintentional). I’m currently at the 26-hour mark and was starting to feel hungry and like I should probably eat something. But I am sick (cold/flu?) and it’s getting late so I figured maybe I’d just have a little something to curb the hunger and not eat a lot so I can sort of “ride out” the fast a bit longer. I decided to have some broth and added 1 tablespoon of butter and frothed it up. I can’t believe how good it is! So rich and creamy!
I may never have broth without butter again!
I love putting butter in broth, and low carb soups, too. One of my “quick” soups is just minced beef, sauteed mushrooms, and beef bone broth. Toss a few greens in if you like to wilt. Add butter. Delicious!
I like pouring some heavy cream in mine, it’s not very different. Good stuff.
On a different note, remember broth usually has protein in it and is not a non-caloric drink, and as such will kick you out of your fasted state (even if the butter won’t put you out of the fat-fast state). This isn’t necessarily a problem, but just in case you expected to stay in a fasted state with that (which is what it sounded like).
Yeah, I recently learned this after doing more research on fasting. It definitely helped at the time and now I know going forward. Thanks for letting me know.
