I started Keto in January 2019. Except for getting the Keto flu early on, it’s pretty much been easy. After about 6 months I had developed a regular daily way of fasting/eating. I cook all my meals, that is if you call just eating various meats a meal? I sometimes have a veg with my meat, I eat chicken, pork, hamburger, steak and steak and steak. I love steak . I eat nuts, a few other snacky things occasionally. I’m super flexible with my Keto. I want to live with this diet. I want it to be pleasurable. I don’t want it to be a constant thing. I just eat Keto.
So I’ve been doing 16/8, sometimes 20/?, I don’t keep up with that. I just eat when I’m hungry.
Which means for the last 13 months it’s been steady eating twice a day. Eat around 12 to 3 every day, then dinner around 8 or 9, I have ate at 11pm. I’ve had no intentions of eating one meal a day. Just didn’t suit me.
However something has happened I can’t wrap my head around. All of a sudden since last week I only get hungry once a day? I get up in the morning, I’m hungry around 12 to 2 and I cook my meal. I eat and I’m not hungry at all after that? No evening meal? But I’m having heartburn and nausea now in the evening? I’m confused why did the evening hunger stop? What’s the nausea and heartburn? Really makes me miserable
I have something strange going on after 19 months Keto?
I don’t know why you feel bad but it’s normal that at some point we don’t get hungry in the usual time. It doesn’t happen to everyone, of course, but it’s quite common. My 16/8 automatically became 19/5 on keto (it was quite sudden as I remember but it didn’t took very much time) and at some point OMAD days happened too.
Not everything that happens when you eat keto is due to keto, its possible to get ill and have health issues unrelated.
I have a good general practitioner and an excellent keto dietician. The doctor tracks my general health and the dietician keeps me up to speed with adjustments to my diet. Today she reminded me I need 2 tsp salt a day.
I forget and I am not an expert just an unhealthy person trying to get as healthy as I am able.
I think you may need to see a doctor. And a keto dietician.
Agree with you Diygurl! Posting useless bad fact article to a poster who is eating keto plan? What’s up with that? A keto eater doesn’t need a carnivore article to start and then a BAD useless article to boot LOL
No telling what people will throw at someone who requires ‘good keto science and help’ in their post and expect those answers for their help!
Did you actually read the whole article because its neutral.
Heartburn is an indication of GI issues.
I can’t comment on the heartburn, but I can tell you that your way of Keto is very similar to mine. I eat a lot of meat and eggs with some veg thrown in. I eat nuts and snacks that I make myself (I’m a muffin lover). As for the hunger, I’ve learned to listen to my body. There are long periods when I am not hungry at all and all of a sudden I can’t make it to 2pm and have to eat at 9am. On the days when I can fast for a long time I welcome them, but if I can’t, I don’t feel bad that I eat. Sounds like you are doing a great job. I have the same philosophy that I want Keto to be lifelong. There should be no suffering. I started June 2019 and loving it.
She’s mainly eating carnivore. Not keto.
Since you believe the article is bad. What is your suggestion for the GI issues?
and these 2 situations will never be the same.
eating nuts, plant oils and veg with meat and more IS NOT and never will be carnivore so you can stop the guessing and useless info you plugged here. Irresponsible call on your answer to this poster.
The person is keto, heavy meat based. Start there and don’t assume.
There are many heavier meat based keto people on this forum to give her very correct and helpful advice.
The problems I had with this article (particularly the carnivore trial portion) are:
-
he didn’t give carnivore enough time, the issues he had could have been from oxalate dumping,
-
He didn’t do pure carnivore. He can’t say carnivore failed him if he was still eating vegetables.
-
“ My body didn’t have enough carbs to maintain my gut lining, and the bacteria in my gut started to eat the mucus that naturally lines your gut (eeww!). I set myself up for gut inflammation and leaky gut.”
How does he know this? Again, he didn’t stop vegetables and he didn’t give enough time for his microbiome to shift.
- “ Red meat is high in the amino acids cysteine, tryptophan, and methionine, which are pro-cancer”. I’m pretty sure this has been debunked.
“sometimes” and “occasionally” is not all the time. Eating plants increases hunger. Where is she eating plant oils?
I’m not going to say that protein poisoning isn’t a real thing, but it has to be in extreme circumstances (like only consuming rabbits, which I’ve been told BTW if that’s the only thing available to you, also eat the eyeballs).
However, I am going to take exception to the comment, “Protein is one of the three macronutrients, along with fat and carbohydrate. These are essential for the optimal functioning of the body.” (emphasis added)
To quote from Sarah Hallberg, “There are no essential carbohydrates.”
The only glucose your body actually needs is already produced through Gluconeogenesis.
Are you suggesting the OP has H.Pylori, because they’re experiencing heartburn?
There could be many reasons for this, not just a bacteria. My heartburn, which I was taking Nexium for, went away after I started keto. I can’t speculate on what might be causing the OP’s heartburn and nausea, so I won’t.
Personally, I would try taking apple cider vinegar.
Cue Dr. Berry video:
It might be in certain instances, but I only get heartburn when I eat certain foods. Zucchini, for instance. Some spices. Sweet potatoes. If I stick to mainly meat with few vegetables, I never get heartburn. As in, never.
So, what I do is stop eating anything that causes me heartburn.
Yes, I knew from Dr. Berry it was possible to move to one meal a day.
I wasn’t expecting it tho? I mean for it just to happen out of the blue. The heartburn and slight nausea is what was confusing? I’m a former heartburn/acid reflux Olympic winner in that category. I won a gold medal for having the most straight days of acid reflux
Keto stopped all that to my utter delight! I was on Prilosec on and off for years, just took it when the reflux was out of control.
But I haven’t had heartburn but like maybe 5 times since I have started Keto in January 2019.
So this new evening heartburn is a mystery? Plus the slight nausea?
Could it be empty stomach heartburn? I used to get that before Keto
If I go to my doctor and complain of heartburn. He will just put me on Prilosec.
I took Prilosec before I was Keto. I had bad heartburn and acid reflux.
Keto took that away. This with my body not being hungry in the evening is brand new. Then the heartburn and slight nausea had me baffled.
If you are eating the same thing you’ve always eaten, I would go see a doctor. It might be something unrelated to what you’re eating. And if you say you’re eating the same thing that did not cause heartburn for years, hopefully, they’ll take a closer look.
