Hi
Just realized that I have probably slowed my metabolism down, by limiting my calories. An app I was using said 1147 calories a day, and I am omad. So many days , these last couple of months I was under 1000. So how do I fix this without gaining weight?. I’m 55, female weigh 129 . 5ft 3
How to fix a slow metabolism?
Easy fix, bump those calorie numbers up! Those are rookie numbers!
Have an extra couple of steaks - you’re in survival mode essentially. You’ve trained your body to run on so few calories that it’s got almost nothing to burn, it wants to store store store.
To answer you both, I get hungry once in a while in the afternoon, not very often. But if I eat, and up the calories, wont I gain again? Or still try and keep the carbs below 20?. I seriously dont want to gain again
Keep carbs below 20, yes. You might gain weight in the beginning, but it’s ENTIRELY necessary in order to train your body to burn calories rather than always trying to store. People hate to hear this but it works.
You’re not so massively overweight, so I’d try to ramp it up over time. Ideally in a few weeks I’d like to see you close to double. Then, after a few weeks maintaining that, drop it by 500 and see what happens.
Once you get to and past this point, you’ll want to intermingle low and high calorie days so that you don’t fall back into this slump. I’ll try to find some of my favorite videos on the subject.
I’d say maybe 100-200 a week until you are at a more normal consumption. If you find that too fast, then go slower. Everyone is different.
Be careful about raising them so quickly. I would say to add 50-100 calories daily for a week, then up the number again. If you start to gain, drop it back a little and stay there until your body adjusts, then go back to adding again.
You guys are way more knowledgeable than me, but didn’t I hear that beef is one of the better foods you can feed your body to bump up the metabolism? Was it “meat sweats” that I’ve read about in other threads? A nice fatty steak can get you pushing towards an extra 1,000 calories, at least for a bigger one. Maybe that’s too much to start with but maybe a small one to get started? Or a big juicy burger?
Goldengirl3102, hope I didn’t start anything I shouldn’t have. LOL!! I’m not sure why but lately, I’ve had the craving for more beef. Made a huge meatloaf last night and have some all beef patties in the freezer waiting for burger night. I’ve been listening to my cravings in this case and am glad it’s not for something sweet or otherwise bad for me.
For some reason that link won’t work for me. I even tried it on YouTube. Any thoughts?
Hmmm. Was working on mobile but now that I’m viewing on a laptop it seems to have broken for me as well. I think it’s on youtube’s end.
