How often do you drink your Bone Broth?

(Rob) #1

I’m doing another 36 hour fast at the moment, started at 8pm last night and have my bone broth ready to go on my desk which I usually consume between 12 and 3pm depending on how I feel.

In a 36 hour fast, when going into the evening would you normally have some more bone broth to keep you going? I’m just wondering what the general practice is for how often one should drink bone broth or if there is a generally a limit to how often you drink it that beyond which rather defeats the point of fasting?

I drank bone broth on the third day of my fast, but was told the protein in it makes the fast less effective. Not sure.

I think of bone broth as a crutch during fasts. Some use HWC in coffee as a crutch. If you need it to keep fasting then do, but if you can get through the fast without then don’t. Is the broth your only salt intake? Keeping electrolytes up is so important.

Water and electrolytes only are the best fasts, but the best fast is the one you can keep doing!

I’m doing a good job of keeping water and electrolytes up, but I find that the broth helps me through an energy dip in the afternoon.

I’m inclined to agree with you that in preference to no fasting at all because I just simply can’t take it, that having a little bone broth whenever I feel the need is ok. I do find that keeping busy really helps and when my mind/body has things to do I can go much longer without the need for broth/fat.

I no longer consume any bone broth in a fast. I consume a good amount as soup though when I am NOT fasting–YUM! When I am feeling a little hungry during a fast, I eat salt. When I feel the “longing” for food (but not hunger itself), I try to work out as soon as I can, and it goes away.

I found some pink Himalayan salt at the local supermarket tonight, so I treated myself for my fast days. I’ll keep some in my office drawer replacing the existing regular sea salt. In time I may try and push out the length of time in-between servings of broth bit by bit, but in all honesty I’ll have probably reached my goal by then.

I gave up on it completely. All it seemed to do for me was spark my appetite. I broke two extended fasts after bone broth triggered super stong hunger. I’ve switched to just taking salt durning fasts.
