Hot and Spicy Nuts

I am loving the new forum and have tried several recipes. I thought I would introduce myself by sharing one of my favorite snacks.

Hot and Spicy Nuts

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp. Chili Powder
2 tsp. Cumin
1 tsp. Cayenne Pepper (Ground Red Pepper)
1 tsp. Ground Black Pepper
1 tsp. Onion Powder
1/4 cup Olive Oil
4 cups Unsalted Nuts
Garlic Salt (to taste)

Directions:

In a skillet, heat chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, and black pepper over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes stirring frequently making sure the spices don’t burn. This “wakes up” the spices. Add onion powder and olive oil. Stir until all ingredients are mixed together. Add nuts and cook until they are slightly warm (about 3 to 4 minutes), tossing and stirring frequently. Remove from heat, and spread nuts on paper towels. Sprinkle garlic salt over nuts and toss to combine. I use a generous amount of garlic salt. Let nuts cool and place in airtight container. Enjoy!

Notes:

  • I like to use 3 cups of unsalted pecans and 1 cup of unsalted mixed nuts
  • Adjust cayenne pepper to suit your heat preference
  • There is a lot of spice on each nut, consider adding more nuts if you prefer a less spicy nut

Sounds really tasty.

Thanks Matt. I have to keep them hidden in a cupboard so I don’t snack on them during the day. But they are nice when I want a salty bite.

By the way, I have been making various versions of Fathead pizza and tried yours two nights ago. My daughter thought it was the best I had made so far. It was very good. After baking, I added fresh chopped basil and it was wonderful.

Great to hear! Fresh basil adds such a nice flavor. Whenever I have some I add it after the pizza comes out.
