Homemade onion dip

(Jane Reed) #1

I had some leftover pork rinds and thought I needed some dip. Here’s a way to make a little at home without buying those expensive packages that always contain dextrose.

Put about half a cup of sour cream in a bowl, add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon dried onion, and about 1/2 teaspoon beef bouillon powder or paste. Mix thoroughly, cover, refrigerate, and allow to stand about 30 minutes for the onion and beef powder to rehydrate. Done

These amounts are approximate, adjust all to taste, double or triple all ingredients for a bigger batch. If you only have the beef cubes, about half of one is right for the recipe. It will dissolve also from the moisture of the sour cream.

It’s true that commercial beef bouillon flavoring has artificial ingredients and perhaps some dextrose, I think it’s less than the packets of dip mix. This way, at least, you control the amount you make. You can satisfy an urge with no leftovers.
