Holy Gallbladder Batman

(cheryl) #1

well, I over did it yesterday. And BOY did I pay a price.

I ended up in the ER last night with SEVER gallbladder pain. I first thought it was just gas… but it didn’t go away and even got worse.

Now I fear FAT – I know I have gallstones – I had a scan a few years ago and they were full but I never have had an attack.

I’m afraid that I will not be able to be Keto if I get it removed…

I am really in love with this lifestyle and am bummed out at the moment of not being able to be in Ketosis…

Help? Thoughts?

thanks,

I had mine removed last year. My doctor told me that the body’s bile process work just fine without a gall bladder!!!

Wow, my last post has a wierd series of numbers and letters instead of my name…

Anyway, I’m able to do keto just fine. I had 40 (yes 40) stones! Had to have thing yanked out right away.

Mine was removed before I had weight loss surgery and I have never had issues with eating high fat. It would be wise to build up slowly though if you do have it removed. Keto often gets blamed for gallbladder issues but it is low fat diets that sludge up the gallbladder through lack of use. Stones form from the sludge and can get stuck when you start flushing it out again with high fat. It’s not quite as black and white as that but an underused gallbladder is where the issues start.

@Keigan Did you flush gall stones like this?

(Rachel Anne) #7

I can totally understand how difficult this would be. My husband had a full gall bladder a few years back and eating fatty foods and even eggs would trigger an attack, not good while on Keto. He was getting his masters at that time so our insurance was not the best so we opted to cleanse it naturally and not go into surgery like the doctor wanted. He drank the apple juice like in the link above but he didn’t do all the other thing. He steeped fresh parsley and drank it like tea, every 2-3 days at first because it is detoxing your body. Eventually he could drink it more regularly. Which ever route you go, best of luck!!

I have not yet, I need to start taking the acid late next week in preparation for the flush. Others have done it with good success.

I’ve heard the flush thing before. Also heard it’s a myth. But… Can’t hurt.

Did it work?

I have a friend who’s keto and has no gall bladder. It can be done. I hope you can clean yours out without surgery! :crossed_fingers:

I had a nearly dead gallbladder that was misdiagnosed for ten years and man did I suffer the most insanely painful attacks imaginable that lasted for hours. Tried every flush, herb, cleanse blah blah because I knew it was gallbladder even though medicine didn’t. I even used to drink apple juice and apple cider vinegar and I can tell you none of that stuff works if you have stones and the little bugger starts acting up. One of the best days of my life was when they yanked that thing out and I finally got relief from its evil. I can also tell you that your tummy might be a bit fickle without a gallbladder but in my case Keto actually HELPED relieve my tummy problems. I think I’m finally eating enough fat to sop all that bile up that flows more freely without the GB.

My advice is dont mess around with it. Get it checked if it’s acting up and get it out if necessary. It can become infected and cause some pretty big problems if not treated.

@Capnbob Yes! That was about 4 years ago and he has been great.

A friend of mine did a gallbladder cleanse a few years back. It involved drinking a lot of olive oil and some lemon juice. She expelled a bunch of bright green soft clumps. But she never wanted to use olive oil again after that. I think it should work.

(cheryl) #15

yeah…While I do appreciate the input. I’m not sure if this is a real treatment. Seems like it’s just the olive oil coagulating. I’m going to go the way of what my Doc says… Glad to hear lots of you have had no issue with it out.

I’m also without a gallbladder for many years due to a bunch of stones and frequent attacks involving ambulances, ERs, and IV pain meds. I have no problems with keto having lost 30 pounds in the last 10 weeks.

Without the Apple juice and without the Epsom salts, I did drink 1/4 cup olive oil and 1/4 cup bottled lemon juice as I went to bed and then laid on my right side for 20 minutes.

Things gurgled and rolled around for a good thirty minutes and the stones I do have moved, my suttle pain went away. This morning all good, I ate sour cream crepes (hazelnut flour and eggs) and coffee with no pains. The true test will be tonight at dinner which will be more fat and protein.

I’ve found other internet references to the remedy for gallbladder flush - one says lay on your right side, one says lay on your back and another says lay on your right side.

Did you use malic acid? I am considering this and want to avoid apple juice. The malic acid according to some random google sources should be 1500 mg a day in 3 doses of 500. I do not have any gallbladder pain but have some general stomach discomfort recently

(Tim) #19

I had my gallbladder out a couple of years ago and have been keto since June 1 of 2017. No issues for me whatsoever. I say Keep calm and Keto on!

Update: i’ve Been consuming good fats and protein all day long and no issues from the liver, pancreas or gall bladder - no pains at all.

The last test will be the coloring of the next BM, hoping for darkness rather than chalk-white.
