Good News- as of Jan 31, 2017 I am out of the prediabetic range. I was at 5.8 pre-keto. I began keto on October 2, 2016 and have lost 55 lbs. In late November I began alternate day fasting, which I’ve done three days a week ever since, typicaally from 36 to 44 hours fasting each time.

These are the lipid panel results:

Total cholesterol: 258
Triglycerides 103
HDL 69
VLDL calc 21
LDL calc 168
HBA1C 5.6

With my Triglycerides being that high, it appears it’s time to switch up some things. What would be some good strategies for bringing my numbers to healthier ranges within the next 3 to 6 months?

Do you have your pre Keto trig numbers? Honestly 100 isn’t that high, and your trig/HDL is in the optimal range. If your trigs are trending upward, that’s something to keep an eye on, but from the rest of your description your heath seems to be improving significantly. Why mess with something going so well?

It was my understanding from another keto group I belong to that triglycerides should be almost half that number, like the 60s, and the LDL:HDL ratio isn’t optimal. Why do you say these numbers look good? Are they good “for now” or should I look to improve them over time? I was told the high triglycerides are associated with high belly fat, which I do have.

Most docs are happy with a triglyceride count below 150. On the other hand, the same docs would start the statins because of the LDL. Most around here will say that an elevated LDL, especially during active weight loss is no big deal.

The things I take note of in your labs here is that you’re having great success, dramatically dropping weight and your A1C is heading in the correct direction. It sounds like you’re already using the tools provided by Keto and fasting to leverage your way in a good direction. If you feel like mixing it up for yourself, why not, just keep track of things, but I don’t think you have to do anything differently at this point.

KCKO.

Thank you for the feedback!

My understanding is <90 for trigs to be sure the LDL particles are the good kind.
