Hello all! I just wanted to introduce myself…I’m Candii. I wasn’t sure where to post an intro, so if this is the wrong spot I apologize.
I’ve been lurking for a bit now and searching and reading and have become so appreciative of all the great info that is on this forum.
My keto journey started in 2017, after having gotten home from a cruise, I dove in with both feet. That was in the beginning of November 2017. I stayed keto for November through December, lost about 25 pounds in that time. I decided I was going to cheat for Christmas, and kind of fell off.
2018 was not a bad year, I didn’t gain until Christmas came around again. I spent the year on keto/off keto, half *ssing it, tbh.
We dove back in January 1 this year and have been on since (one cheat at the state fair, lol). I’m feeling good, a lot better than before. Weight is coming off slowly, but I’m ok with that. In January and half of February, I was tracking calories and I found that to be very stressful. I was passing on good fats because my calories were “too high”. I lift weights 3-4 times a week and would like, over time, to put on some muscle. I do find myself getting stronger progressively which I love.
After reading some forum posts, I am going back to tracking only carbs. I’m not going to worry about calories or fats or protein, right now. I want to firmly get settled into fat adaptation before I think about those other things.
Sorry for the length, I just really wanted to say thank you all for so many amazing posts and all the helpful info!!
Hi there! Newbie here and wasn't sure where to post
Hi Candii and welcome.
Good plan. It worked for me. As long as your satiety signal is working properly and you listen to it, I think you will do just fine.
I am a 64 year old woman who needs to loose 25 pounds. I’ve been successful in the past on Weight Watchers, but really want to adapt to the Keto Lifestyle. I’ve been doing Keto for two weeks now, but haven’t lost weight and am not going into ketosis (according to my urine tests). I did “cheat” two nights ago and had three large spoonfuls of ice cream. I have also enjoyed vodka soda cocktails and a few glasses of white wine. I’m asking for help and advice on how to make keto work for me.
What do I need to adjust to get myself into ketosis?
As long as you are drinking alcohol, you are not going to lose weight. Your body has to process the alcohol out first and then get back to weight loss. The ice cream probably didn’t help…but I do have a recipe for delicious keto ice cream if you are interested…
Wrong. I lost 25 pounds and had scotch, wine and beer daily. I am equally sure it has a negative effect so I am not implying that it is an integral part of my weight loss.
Super crazy easy. The following is for chocolate ice cream, but I’ve also made coconut, peanut butter chocolate and vanilla. I have a video…I’m not sure of the rules about sharing…
1 c. heavy cream
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp liquid stevia
1/4 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Just put everything in a mason jar, put the lid on, shake until combined. Freeze.
Sounds great! Does that tweak your ice cream and other cravings? Since I started (3 weeks), I haven’t had any cravings. I am so afraid that monkey is going to climb on my back again.
How much do you eat at a time? See, I’m already thinking like an addict.
I find that it is fatty? enough, that it totally satisfies me. If I were to have it all the time, it probably would make me crave other sugar, but I save it for when I really, really want ice cream. I mean, I went off one time and ate the whole thing. I still lost weight…It is very high in calories and fat. Idk that I would recommend eating the whole thing, lol.
My only concern is I used to regularly eat a pint of premium, full fat ice cream all the time, no problem. That was “dessert.”
I did, too. Ben and Jerry’s every. single. weekend. Now, I treat myself with the keto version every once in a while and don’t feel bad, mentally or physically.
I love it that we all speak the same language here. No one can relate the same way as people who have lived it.
My doctor referred me to a nutritionist one time (after I told him I was a compulsive overeater and how powerless I felt). Walked in, I don’t think she ever had a fat day in her life. I reluctantly started to explain what my food addiction was like - against my better judgment - and she proceeded to tell me she could totally relate. Her thing was chocolate chips and she’d have a handful of them and just want more. Never went back.
And my every single weekend Ben and Jerry’s habit was actually me restraining myself. I used to eat a pint like every other day. Sometimes I still want to. That’s when the keto version comes in.
