Hi all!
So, doing hardcore keto for 4 weeks. Under 1600 cal, under 15 net cards, hitting protein (88g) and fat (109g) according to carb manager but haven’t lost a pound or inches! I test blood and rarely am even at 1.0 most of the time I’m at .4-.6, what am I doing wrong??
Help - Strict keto for 4 weeks, have not lost weight or inches
Most likely nothing wrong, just more patience needed. Very early days, not everyone loses several pounds a week.
109 fat does seem low for a new keto’er though, and if you’re limiting calories please stop doing that at least until you’re fat adapted.
What’s your starting weight? People who weigh less at the start will be slower to lose. And like they said, don’t be intentionally restricting calories.
I have trouble getting above 1.0. I’ve been doing this awhile. I weigh 120lb. I’m eating 20g (net) carbs, 56g protein and around 150+g fat. Or at least that’s what I’m trying for.
That’s putting me at around a 75/20/5% ratio for calories from fat/protein/net carbs.
I realized that I was eating to much protein and that’s why my ketones were around 0.5.
Reducing my protein and upping the fat helped me get to around 1.0… But I’m having trouble going higher.
@KetoCancerMom How long have you been keto? What method do you use for testing? If you’ve been in ketosis a good while, then any method other than blood testing may be giving you a faulty low reading. I can’t really see, how on 56 grams of protein and 20 grams of carbs, you wouldn’t be deeply into ketosis.
It’s only been the past month that I’ve been focusing on macros. I’ve been doing “lazy keto” (cutting carbs, but not worrying about protein) since July.
I am insulin-sensitive, but doing this for other health reasons. I’m also IFing about 16/8
@KetoCancerMom And what form of testing do you use? You could absolutely be fat adapted enough to not be showing much ketones from breath or urine.
Are you still trying to lose any weight, or are you in maintenance at 120? I ask because I’m trying to sort out my maintenance macros myself. Your carbs, protein, and weight are similar to my own, but I’ve been doing about a hundred grams of fat (often less), and I keep losing.
I never did this for weight loss, and in fact could stand to gain 5lbs. I’m testing blood ketones 2x a day.
This is interesting, yeah. Someone mentioned the breathalyser yesterday, and I went and found mine and couldn’t get a reading out of it, despite having been 18 hours food-free, and just my usual boring “strict keto” for months before that.
Just tried it again now, after 36+ hours of not eating, and it’s showing 1.2, which is solid.
So yes, they can be all over the place. Which is why mine took about 20 minutes to find, I guess, as I don’t bother with it
If you’re not doing it for weight loss and you’re metabolically sensitive then why are you after such high ketones? You are well into nutritional ketosis at 1mmol. Are you epileptic?
No. I’m going for a low GKI, for cancer-related reasons.
I just found/read the first post in your cancer story. It’s just awful how badly the medical system fails us sometimes. I’m in tears thinking about it. I have no further advice, cancer is deep end stuff, but I really hope ketosis helps you.
@Shawna_Rogers
Just wanted to check in and see how you are doing with progress.
I’ve been able to get my ketones higher by IF, around 20/4. I have also had some success adding in a mostly salad-based lunch with high-fat dressing and MCT oil.
