Help! Need recipe ideas for dental work Keto'er

(Lane) #1

My husband is having four (!) teeth pulled tomorrow AND a root canal. He’s probably not going to be able to eat any solid food for a few days. Any suggestions/recipes to help him stay in ketosis?

I was going to make us an Instant Pot chicken veggie soup, and I bought some popsicle molds to make some kind of fatty cold treats with cream and berries.

Bone broth.

I seasoned some cream cheese with salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder (my 4 favorite seasonings). I love it and it kind of reminds me of crab rangoon without the crab, or the skin.

How about mashed avacado?

A few of mine that might work (but nothing piping hot):

Recipe suggestions from Reddit

Savory

  • Chinese egg custard (This is so easy and delicious, I regularly have it for dinner after late work nights, just because it’s so fast and good. I recommend broth instead of water, and a liberal drizzle of sesame oil and some chopped scallions on top; if you can handle it, I also add chopped raw shrimp to the egg mixture before steaming.)
  • Broth (chicken, beef, veggie)
  • Pureed vegetables (cauliflower, celeriac, broccoli)
  • Blended soups
  • Smashed avocado
  • Soft cheeses (brie, cream cheese, spreadable cheese wedges)
  • Soft-cooked eggs (poached, soft-boiled)

Sweet

  • Sugar-free Jell-o
  • Sugar-free, low carb ice cream
  • Protein shakes or smoothies
  • Sugar-free almond yogurt
  • Keto cheesecake, if you’re prepping in advance or feeling weirdly ambitious post-op

General suggestions from Reddit

Eggs are PERFECT after wisdom teeth removal. I️ had 3 of mine removed using IV twilight sedation. It was only scary in my head. The procedure was over before I️ blinked. After it was over I️ went home and watched TV and took it easy. I️ would suggest ( they will give you these suggestions in your post op materials too)

Take your pain meds BEFORE your hurting for the first 48 hours. If you stagger your most likely narcotic pain meds with ibuprofen you most likely won’t start hurting. Only take the RX pain as long as you have to. Two days is prob all you need them. Day 3 I’m sure you’ll be good with Ibuprofen.

Don’t go off keto because you think you have to eat nothing but ice cream after the removal. Keto will help you heal faster.

Eat before your meds. Use the ice pack they give you.

No straws OR harsh rinsing. Dry Socket like everyone mentioned is painful. It’s were the blood clot is dislodged and the bone is exposed. You should rinse gently, no sucking on ice or candy or straws, no smoking anything. You likely won’t get it so don’t worry.

Sleep on your back with your head on pillows. It helped me not swell much.

Full fat Greek yogurt is good. Eggs are good. If you want ice cream Bryers Carb smart isn’t bad.

Ouch! Your poor husband…

Several people have suggested chocolate mousse on here- just whipped cream, cocoa powder, & sweetener if your husband’s okay with that? Or if he has the carbs free, make a smoothie with some cream & a few berries?
Scrambled eggs, make cauliflower cheese with a hw cream sauce, & blend it?

Thanks everyone. It’s 110 degrees here today. We’re miserable. He’s more miserable than I am. Our AC sucks. He can’t have any solid food for a few days, so I’m just going to let him indulge in whatever. I bought him some low carb ice cream and he’s enjoying that. He can KCKO when he’s feeling a little better. Poor fella.
