Heavy cream in coffee-raise LDL?

(KB) #1

I recently read Dom D’agostino saying that HWC causes a rise in LDL cholesterol. I’ve recently come to love having 1/4C HWC in my coffee… Should I be worried? Since making this change, my abdominal cushion has been disappearing so I really don’t want to stop enjoying it. Thoughts?
Also not quite sure which topic to file this under:grimacing::grimacing:

I put it in Fat. Close enough … although cream is 3/4 water

Yes it could well affect LDL if you ate enough of it, but the greater question is what does that mean. LDL is a very weak marker of cardiovascular health. Raising HDL is a much better marker of improving cardiovascular health and saturated fat makes it go up.

So my read would be … meh.

Enjoy your cream! You don’t want folks thinking you’re a psychopath. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_561baf08e4b0dbb8000f150f

Bacon nectar is better than cream in my humble opinion

Most of my fat and calorie intake comes from coffee with HWC because I work the night shift. I’m not really all that concerned about it though. I get my labs taken again in April, we’ll see what has been happening. Keto on with your HWC! :grinning:

There’s also a theory, put forth by Peter Attia and others, that if you have a problematic LDL particle count, substituting monounsaturates for saturated fats may help. For just high LDL-C, it can be manipulated down by increasing saturated fat intake before a test. Dave Feldman, who was on a 2KD podcast, has documented this for himself and several others.

I’m confused. Is bacon nectar simply bacon fat?

(Guardian of the bacon) #13

Yes…Scott determined that “fat” didn’t really do it justice so…as far as I know…he coined a more suitable name.

Simply bacon fat?? Blasphemy I say!! :bacon: is God’s second greatest gift to man, and the divine liquid that is rendered when one cooks :bacon: is Bacon Nectar

Found myself craving heavy cream for the past few days. This morning I ate about 500 cals worth in 2 coffees but didn’t think about being hungry again until 8pm.

I’ve been wondering about heavy cream too cause I’m with you - love about a 1/4 cup in my joe every morning! I ran across an interesting thing with my LDL over the holidays. I started using coconut oil for making keto and low carb treats the end of November and thru December. My LDL jumped from 93 to 111 in that time! But, my HDL also went from 51 to 58. What I found interesting was that when I quit eating coconut oil my LDL went down to 97 in 2 months but my HDL stayed the same. In this whole time I’ve had cream in my coffee every day. Just my experience. And since Robert explained how LDL isn’t a great marker for heart disease I’m not sure how important this is but I don’t eat coconut oil now.
