Haloumi v Paneer: battle for the king of cheese chips

I’ve been recently devouring batches of deep fried Haloumi cheese chips (fries). They are a Keto super food with awesome fat:protein macro.
I then found at my local Costco Paneer which is an Indian cheese. It deep fries beautifully, crispy, and less squeaky than Haloumi.
I’ve made this batch for lunches, which will go nicely with boiled eggs and crispy oven bacon.

I was used to buying Halloumi at Aldi in the UK for less than £2 for 8oz while at my parents over the holidays. Then I got back to San Francisco and could only find it at $17 at Whole Foods or $10 at Safeway - way too expensive.
For US Keto-ers I have been looking for an alternative. I haven’t tried paneer yet, though I fear it may have the same price issues as Halloumi. The best low cost alternative I’ve found so far is Panela, a Mexican grilling cheese. I don’t think it would work for your fries since it seems to go gooey compared to Halloumi when heated, but as long as you don’t mash it up, it will reharden back to a firm consistency when taken off the heat.
