Halo Top in UK - YUCK!

icecream

(Allan L) #1

Ah, so I am not a big sweet eater or a desert kinda guy but spotted Halo Top on the Tesco website the other day and thought “Why not, a nice keto treat”

Well, I have to say, its horrible and very overprices. £5 for a small tub. Been a few hours now and can still feel that fake sweetener sensation in my mouth. Not worth the carb count IMHO.

Really nothing special. Simple double cream whipped with some vanilla extract is much nicer than this stuff.

HMMMM…double whipped cream with VAnilla…Yes!! Once in a while I add spearmint to it also!

Which flavour was it? I bought all four flavours available while they were at the intro price of £2.50 - one was really good, one was nice. The other two weren’t good at all. Doubt I’ll bother again just because sweet things aren’t my thing, I just wanted to try. If I do get it again, it’ll be the salted caramel though.

(Allan L) #4

Chocolate. Not my thing either, but it was for the novelty value.

(Allie) #5

That was the worst of the four I bought. It was vile.

(Allan L) #6

NOOO! Don’t tell me that. The temptation to buy another tub next time just kicked in.
Which one have you enjoyed the most then?

(Allie) #7

Salted caramel definitely. The cinnamon one was weird at first but by the end of the tub I had grown to quite like it. Peanut butter was just weird. Chocolate… well it was a disappointment as you found too.

I saw this at the store and looked at the label, seems like you can’t eat much of it and it was pretty expensive for a tiny container so I didn’t get it.

Halo Top is garbage, most of the flavors have anti-ketogenic ingredients, AND it tastes like crap. Halo top is geared towards the fat phobic calorie counters, not keto. With minimal effort you can make MUCH better ice cream yourself.

Birthday cake flavor from halo top is the only one that doesn’t taste diety to me. The rest suck. I don’t understand why people rave about them!

(Lisa) #11

I agree!:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

(mary6aros) #12

I agree. Whipped cream with chocolate powder and sweetener… Nummy. :yum:

Three words.

Cream

Cheese

Icing

Softened cream cheese
Vanilla (or other flavoring)
Butter
Powdered Swerve

Mix

So easy.

I buy it on occasion and have recently since it was on offer. It hits the spot if I want ice cream – ingredients are not perfect but could do worse if comparing to regular ice cream. It is quite sweet but I usually have it with frozen berries, add some goat’s yoghurt and almonds.

(Allan L) #15

OK, I am obviously quite sensitive to the sweeteners used in this product. Horrible upset stomach today, cramping etc. Woke up this morning with a major headache and can’t shake the feeling of dehydration.

Also, I am crazing sweet food like never before. I’ve always been a savoury type of guy but I just want to rush to the shop and feat on bad things!

Never again, if you have managed to avoid any keto treats whilst eating this way of life I highly recommend you continue!

(Lisa) #16

That sound good! I just made some coconut fat bombs and they were great!

(Patrick L Anderson) #17

I tried it the other night. Spent the night with a massive headache and still felt bloated the next morning.

Might try looking for Oppo brand. Think the ingredients were better than halo-top and taste wise id say was pretty good. Especially the chocolate-hazelnut (my dh really liked it anyways and hes not a big chocolate fan)
Currently on sale at tescos for £3 (think reg price is about £4.50ish)

Not to bad for an occasional treat if you cant be arsed making yer own

(Allie) #19

Yes Oppo is good, I think available also in Holland and Barrett and Waitrose.

I’m fine with the occasional tub of Halo Top and get no nasty symptoms after, but still it’s very rare that I choose to do it and some of the flavours are vile. Can’t go wrong with salted caramel though, same applies for Oppo.
